We are getting married at the hall, (not my first choice) I don't want to miss the cocktail hour and I really wanted to take pictures at Old westbury Gardens. Does anyone does have a similar problem?

we took pics before the ceremony for 3 hours. NO REGRETS and I would do it again in a second. those pics are my absolute favorites! and we didn't miss a minute of our wedding - priceless

We did it and it worked perfectly...it was an AMAZING moment, I have no regrets whatsoever.!! I just put picks up on another thread.

I know this is going to cause a fight between me and FH!! he wants to go to the cocktail hour but I want to take pics during the cocktail hour because I don't want him to see me before the ceremony and our ceremony is at 730 and cocktail hour is at 8pm (we are getting married at the hall)!! I just alwasy dreamed of me walking down the aisle and him seeing me for the first time that way! I don't want to ruin that!

its definately personal preference. If people decide not to see their DH before becase they think its bad luck then that is a little much. 99% of people who didnt see their DH before end up get divorced. I remember someone on this board said that the custom of not seeing the bride before was because marriages were arranged and the husband was prevented of seeing his bride in case she was not attractive. People get divorced its just life, there is a super high divorce rate and i can 100% guarantee its not because the bride and groom saw eachother for pictures before the ceremony. I have heard that the photographer will make it very special for the bride and groom when they see eachother for the first time

Same problem - ceremony is at reception location but we are not seeing each other before. it is a personal preference but I just could not imagine...we got our cocktail hour extended a half hour so we had time to do all the pictures in that time frame and possibly be able to enjoy even just 15 minutes of the cocktail hour. our BP is very small so pics shouldn't take crazy long.

I am getting married at lands end and I'm taking pictures before the ceremony. Yes they say it's 'bad luck' but I think it's better to enjoy your own wedding than take pictures the whole time.

again its funny this post is on here today .. another issue i have been thinking about. my FH wants to take pics before hand .. we are getting married at the RH ..i don't know for some reason i am so torn on this .. i just don't know .. and this post is split too .. so i guess i still have over a year to decide (hopefully) all these decisions are killing me

Yes. Having pics taked at the Westbury Gardens, with ceremony to follow. It just makes sense.

yep - we have too - we are taking pics before the ceremony - I am not missing the CH for that!!!
