Self-defeating?

Self-defeating?

Ok, so we are making a cardbox out of a wooden planter. Its larger than most card holders I have seen but not obscene-we plan to use it for our plants after the wedding!

Anyway, I think they look really pretty. My mom is up in arms because she thinks #1-'looks tacky' and #2 she thinks 'people should hand you the cards, Jenn, and that's that. What if someone steals the box?'

Now I know these are semi valid concerns but #1-I have seen cardboxes at weddings. #2-Its a pretty heavy sturdy planter. Its also BIG. (like a foot and a half high and I can wrap my arms around it.) I highly doubt anyone could lug that sucker out in the early afternoon without someone seeing it. My dad's damily are also all over 6 ft tall and built like trucks heh and I'm sitting them near it!

My one concern is that many people may not know what it is. My mom didn't even know what a SAVE TEH DATE WAS! NEither did FH's mom because diff generation. So to pacify mom, I ordered a money bag from ebay.

My question is, should we even bother with the card box? It will be a pretty decoration and Iike the idea of having the card box there because shows my crafty side, but is it a waste of time if I end up having to take cards out of my bag and putting them into cardbox myself?.

Any resistance from anyone for having it there? Did guests slip the cards in there or did they hand them to you and you put them in there yourself?

Thanks girls!

i haven't had my wedding yet so i can't speak from experience on whether people used the cardbox properly or not, but it seems to me that a money bag would be a lot easier to steal than a big card box. unless someone is planning on having control of the bag at all times and that can get annoying when it's time to dance or walk around. Just my 2 cents.

I have been to so many weddings and never seen a card box untill i joined the knot and liweddings.

As of now I am not sure what I will do since I am assuming that many people at my wedding will not know what a card box is.

people will hand you the envelopes anyway - then you just put them in the card box

what my cousin did at the Carltun was at the beginning of the night he asked for one of the guys that worked there to basically guard it - and that poor kid did not move the entire night. . .

LOL poor guy. Hope they fed him at least!

Yea I think I will just put them in my little bag and then stick them in the box because that way they are all in the same place. I just feel very 'godfatehresque' with the money bag especially since my FH's fam is Italian. He thinks its funny but bad enough have to drag around a long veil lol. More stuff to carry is NOT GOOD!

I always put my card in the cardbox at weddings....I feel bad when the bride is standing there trying not to drop them at the end of the night. I would just use the card box & put them in there after people hand them to you.

From weddings I have been to, its about 50/50. Half the people will put it in the card box, and leave any other presents on the table with the card box, and half the people will give it to you. (Periodically, the brides would then stop and put the cards in the box, so she wasn't holding too much.) Just make sure you have someone or a few people to watch it all night... and maybe don't put it right by the door if you don't have to...

I am going to put it by our table and the cake table. -Dads fam who are all huge will be on that side and the cardbiox is a big heavy wooden planter-not easy to escape with. We will also have it locked so we should be ok. More concerned people won't know what it is! LOL

Does anyone have a cardbox poem?
