Sept 11th wedding???

OK so we are waiting until 2005 besause of $$$ issues .....but this place that we really like offerred us a really good deal on Sat. Sept.11 04. There are a few reasons why we would prefer to get married this year but is it too uncomfortable to even consider that date? What would you think if you recieved an invitation for that day?

I would go!

Honestly, something good needs to be associated with that day.

Re: Sept 11th wedding???

Everyone has their own priorities when planning a wedding. For me, this is not a date I'd want my wedding and anniversary on, which is probably the reason you're getting such a good deal to begin with. But it's your wedding and if it's really important to you to do it this year, it's something to consider.

One other thing to consider, though, are your guests. So many of us knew people who died or at least knew someone who knew someone... I'd be really conscious of the feelings of my guests. Some people may see 'celebrating' on that day as offensive, especially if they were directly involved...

If I receivd the invitation I would be there but my decision most certaintly take into consideration the fact that I did not lose anyone I was close to that day and do not have a memorial tribute to attend. I hope I'm saying this respectfully. Ummm...my advice - the date is up to you and so long as you feel comfortable then it'll be fine.

Re: Sept 11th wedding???

I would think it would be a nice way to turn a bad day into a good memory.

People get married on Pearl Harbor's Anniversary.

The only thing I would think about if any of your guests especially family were directly affected then it may be a hard day for them.

I had family that got married 9-13 right after it happened it put a damper on their day slightly but everyone was happy to have a nice thing to celebrate. A Wedding is a great way to lift spirits!

Re: Sept 11th wedding???

here we go again.

This has been been mulled over a lot here. My personally opinion is. I'd go. I think its a great OPPOSITE of what that day represents and its a true 'in the face' to the idea that we are so terrified we can't celebrate a new beginning.

People have strong feelings for and against having their own wedding on that date.

Ultimately.. its up to you. Do you consider it a day to start your life or do you find it too mcuh for you to be happy on.

Your guests will come to your wedding because it's your wedding. If they decide not to come because it happens to fall on a sad day, then that's their choice. It would be the same if it happen to fall on the anniversary of the death of any of their family memebers. My gut feeling is most people would come to your wedding to be happy for you.

I so appreciate everyone's feddback from this site. Luckily we are having a small wedding and to my knowledge no one has a loved one that was directly related with that tragedy or else I would not consider it..... because I do think it would be unfair to ask them to celebrate on that day. Thanks again everyone.

You answered my question. Since no one you knew personally was involved then do it. That day shouldnt be loooked down upon forever. Bring some good memories to that day.

We were offered good deals on that day too. We lost a close friend who worked at the WTC and he would have been in our wedding party so we declined the offer.

I do agree with the people who said that it would be nice to have something happy on that day, if you are comfortable with it. If we received an invitation to a wedding that day we would certainly go as long as it didn't conflict with a memorial for our friend.

I also know of a couple that are having their reception that day, but their ceremony the weekend before so that their actual anniversary will be a different day. I know this makes the logistics difficult but I wanted to pass on the idea.

When we started planning we thought about that day for the same reasons (good deals). But we talked to a couple people in the bridal party, and they said they wouldn't be able to make it b/c of memorial services etc.

I agree that its good to have something to celebrate that day, but your guests might be in different spirits then they would otherwise. good luck.

Re: Sept 11th wedding???

I am a 9/11 bride, no one close to me or my family was affected... So we opted to make a celebratory day of it... If someone doesn't want to come or feels uncomfortable, so be it. I will have a great day no matter what... You can't change the calendar and it's a prime night to have a wedding... September is a great weather month!

Go for it why not.

If I got an invite for that day I would go but I would not have that as my date.
