OK so we are waiting until 2005 besause of $$$ issues .....but this place that we really like offerred us a really good deal on Sat. Sept.11 04. There are a few reasons why we would prefer to get married this year but is it too uncomfortable to even consider that date? What would you think if you recieved an invitation for that day?

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
Its time that we celebrated life on that day. It's a day to remember loved ones lost and loved ones gained. It should be a day to rejoice in all we have and to appreciate each other. What better way to do that than a wedding!
I suggest having a moment of silence for those lost during someone’s speech and incorporate the beginning of your new beginning in the speech as well.

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
JMO but I couldn't get married on that date. I work in the WFC and was here that day and wouldn't be in a celebratory mood (sorry- I'm sure plenty of ppl disagree w/ me). That's just me though- I don't even come into work on that day anymore and never will again b/c I want to be w/ my family (But not celebrate anything). You should do what you feel is best in your own opinion. good luck!!

I would love to attend a wedding on Sept 11, 2004!!! I think it's the perfect way to bring happiness to this day. We can't show those bast**ds they didn't WIN!!!. I say go for it, and I know everything will be perfect!.

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
my friends were also thinking about that date, but opted not to because that date will forever be associated with what happened, and it would be your anniversary, it's like you are sharing your anniversary with something so tragic....it's just a matter of personal feelings, It wouldn't stop me from attending a wedding on that day, but I personally wouldn't want to have my anniversary be the same as a tragic historic event.

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
I would go for it. There were people who had birthdays that day...anniversaries...before this tradedy ever happened. I was there that day...and although I did not personally lose anyone, it was still a very sad day to everyone. What better way than to celebrate happiness and show that life goes on...because it does!

I used to work in the WFC and was there that day as well. Where do you work?
ETS: I should probably comment on the topic too! I feel the same way about 9/11as SReidy. If I wanted to go to the person's wedding I'd go regardless of whether it was 9/11 or not, however, I have had a hard time on the last two 9/11s (just because of the memories of my experience) and can't imagine being in much of a party mood. Regardless of this, it sounds as if you may have no one invited to your wedding who has had the same experience as us. Therefore I really don't see this as an issue for you. If you can have that day as your anniversary without associating it with anything but your wedding then go for it. It's YOUR wedding!

It would be the same if it happen to fall on the anniversary of the death of any of their family memebers. JMHO
That's a good point.

-ooh another good point! I was at a wedding in July where the groom's grandfather had just died, and the BM mentioned it. It was good b/c it would feel weird to not acknowledge it. I t hink the same would hold true in this case. Also, ask a few key people & see what they say. ( actuall guests- not us)

I would go if i were invited...but I would NOT want that date as my anniversary. It's a very depressing day and I dont want to be thinking about that miserable day on my anniversary.JMO
Thats my cousins wedding date and I think it is so wonderful to try and make it a happy wedding, before the unfortunate attacks, I'm sure many people were married on that date and many will after it. We CAN NOT let them control us esp. in something that is so special to us all.

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
Kinda personal question that seems 'heartless' and I DONT mean it that way at all but is the price a lot lower? We were offered the date too, right away said no, never asked abouthow much lower the price would be and I feel stupid asking now, we dont know anyone personally affected and its become a consideration. I think that as years go on for you if you decide to do it, the memories will not be so 'Fresh' and it will get easier, as it is only a few years ago I would do it as long as no-one you know was there or affected because it might still bring them some pain.

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
This date was offered to me also but I couldn't do it. My friend Deanna perished in the attacks and her mom will be at my wedding. If I had picked that day I'm not sure how she'd feel and I know her since I'm a baby. I chose 9/16 instead. But it's your decision, your wedding. Good Luck!

I would go to a wedding on 9/11 - but i would not want to get married on that day. Either way though, I dont think you should have a moment of silence. Too sad, you want to keep it a happy day that will just remind people of how Mad and Sad and SCARED we were that day.

It's a toughy. I would go to a wedding on that date but I don't think I would have my wedding on that date. Don't know, just a personal choice. It's really up to you and how you feel personally about it. I don't think people would not come.

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
I certainly would go to a Wedding on 9/11 but I could never pick that day for my wedding. It's still to soon and I have to think about my guests. A lot of people say get over it, but in some ways I don't think we should.

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
I wouldn't want 9/11 as my anniversary. Just the mention of it still gives me chills.
IMO, and this is just my opinion, there is something distasteful about the whole thing. It seems cold and mercenery to profit off the tragedy and death of so many people. If someone said 'I want a 9/11 wedding to celebrate life and make happy memories of that day' I'd feel differently about it than people saying they want the date just to save themselves money. It has an 'ick' factor for me. I'm not pointing fingers, or passing judgement, JMO. Bottom line, it's your wedding, do what is best for you and your family.

I WOULD go to a wedding on 9/11 - BUT was offered the date as well at a discount and did not accept. Opted for another 'discount' day over a long weekend. The day is still to fresh in my mind for my wedding. JMO

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
I would probably go to a wedding on 9/11 but would never have my wedding that day.. too many bad memories.. and I dont see people being in this huge mood to party after all the radio and news is about 9/11. I understand some people say celebrate life and love and whatever but to me it is still too soon...If I were invited to a 9/11 wedding I wouldnt think the people did it out of making the day better.. I would think it was b/c of the $$ ( but thats JMO) Also my brother in law is FDNY and fought the fires that day... my sister (moh) and brother in law (gm) go down to the WTC every year on that date and I wouldnt want to break that tradition.

I would think it would be a nice way to turn a bad day into a good memory.
People get married on Pearl Harbor's Anniversary.
Yup...I got married 12/07/03...Pearl Harbor Day...I say if you want to do it 9/11...you should.
