OK so we are waiting until 2005 besause of $$$ issues .....but this place that we really like offerred us a really good deal on Sat. Sept.11 04. There are a few reasons why we would prefer to get married this year but is it too uncomfortable to even consider that date? What would you think if you recieved an invitation for that day?

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
I agree. If I wanted to be amrried in Sept, I would not mind having it on that date. (Actually I think FH would like it in a wierd way, being a 'notorious' date and all) You can't let that day change what you normally would do anyway. I have to agree w/ memorials and stuff like that. So you may have ppl that are at memorials.

I wouldn't want 9/11 as my anniversary. Just the mention of it still gives me chills.
IMO, and this is just my opinion, there is something distasteful about the whole thing. It seems cold and mercenery to profit off the tragedy and death of so many people. If someone said 'I want a 9/11 wedding to celebrate life and make happy memories of that day' I'd feel differently about it than people saying they want the date just to save themselves money. It has an 'ick' factor for me. I'm not pointing fingers, or passing judgement, JMO. Bottom line, it's your wedding, do what is best for you and your family.
That's exactly how I feel about it. EXACTLY!

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
I do not agree with Wendypoo and Somedaybride. Booking the wedding on 9/11 is not profiting off someone’s loss. It is not like going to the corner of Liberty and Church to sell a book of pictures taken of the tragedy to tourists. Do you really think AGV said let me see how much a wedding is on 9/11 so I can get a break. I think you are being a little harsh. JMO.
So anyway in response to AGV I think it would be fine to get married on 9/11/04. Seriously, it will be three years since the tragedy. While we will never forget the impact of how that day changed our lives and our country it is important to live life as you want and to do things that make you happy. If you do not then the terrorists win. That can not happen.
Make that day for yourself and your family a celebration of life. A memory of happy times. JMO: I came close to losing my life that day for I was there in the second tower. I feel it is time to move forward but never forget.
Good Luck with your decision.

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
FH's cousin is getting married this September 11. Neither one of us have a problem attending. I was right smack in the middle of 9/11 (literally) and my FH is a fireman who lost MANY MANY friends. So much saddness has come to us as a result of 9/11 - we will never forget that day or the lost ones, but IMHO, life goes on and newer and happier memories need to be created - it is the only way to recover.

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
I think that you should do what you want. If it does not make you feel uncomfortable then by all means. I would go if I were invited and am sure many people would too as many would not. You have to know your guests.....
To me Sept 11th was a sad day but honestly I personally cannot dwell on just Sept 11th. I was in the military and to me anytime a life is lost........its no different. Its all a loss! Lives are being lost right now and there are still weddings going on.........JMO

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
Thank you all again for your heartfelt opinions.
We have thought it over.......................... and although I too think there is nothing wrong with attending a wedding that day (to those of you having a wedding 9/11 it is absolutely a day to celebrate life and love and it is important to remember the good that can come from tragic events).............................. after doing more research we realized there are some guests that were affected personally and may be really uncomfortable............... we do not want that to happen.
With that........The search continues.

agv asked for opinions, I gave my opinion. I would never judge, everyone needs to do what is best for them. It was my opinion, as asked. If in the end she decides to do her wedding that day, more power to her. She will be just as married as the rest of us, and maybe a little less broke

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
......just for the record we did not ask for that date. I asked what Saturdays in Aug & Sept 04 they had left open (beacuse we were originally discussing 05 and I was curious what the $$$ difference would be) they only had that Sat. eve. left which was probably part of the reason why they gave a good deal and why we started to consider it.
Again, not that asking for that date even needs to be defended......in MOP

Re: Sept 11th wedding???
this will be the third anniversary of 9/11. i work one block away. I know I felt the depth of teh tragedy on the first anniversary all day. But then last year, I definitely felt it- but went along with my day. I would have moments when I would think about it, but honestly- it wasn't much more on that day than it was every day (except during the memorial).
If you are having a small wedding and no one has any close friends or family that were effeceted, I woudl do it. The tragedy of 9/11 is every day- not just on the anniversary. JMO.
