so im surprised I couldnt find a more recent post about this (last was 2004). Is anyone getting married on September 11/ how do you feel about the date? Its one of the only fridays left at a hall i love and the price is INSANE compared to their usual friday night price. This makes me think people are still hesitant abut the date but just wondering what the ladies think....I personally have no problem with it (I think the only reason we even remember the exact day is bc it specifically termed 'the sept 11 attacks') FH doesnt love it but loves the price , haha
i added a poll but thoughts are welcome...

Re: September 11 wedding?
I personally wouldn't do it. But I also wouldn't think anything less of someone who did have their wedding on 9/11.

Re: September 11 wedding?
I wouldn't. But my father used to work on Wall Street and lost a lot of friends that day. FH also lost a cousin who worked in the Trade Center and has another cousin who is FDNY (still with us). For us it just hits too close to home.

I lost 2 friends that day. However, it is also my sister's birthday. And it was my grandmother's too.
If I lost a very close loved one, I wouldn't do it. Otherwise, I say go for it. It's a chance to celebrate life. Look at it this way, there are plenty of people who get married on Pearl Harbor Day.

Re: September 11 wedding?
Personally I wouldnt but i think its a personal opinion. I know you asked for our opinions but it really depends on you and your FH. If you have no problem with it than nothing is stopping you! Good Luck with your decision.

I personally wouldn't do it but wouldn't have a problem attending a wedding of someone that had their wedding on this day.

Re: September 11 wedding?
Even if u r okay with the date, U my have people invited to the wedding who lost someone close to them on 9/11 and it may make them feel uncomfortable. Just something to consider.

ITA. I totally agree with someone else who mentioned that the date 9-11 is imprinted in our minds because it was called the 9/11 attacks. For the life of me i can't remember the date of the first WTC bombing or the oklahoma city one.
It depends on what your personal connection is with it. I don't have anyone who was involved in that so if it were me i'd be ok with that date.
This topic has me thinking so i'm gonna edit this.
IMO, and again this is just my opinion, whatever friends/family members were lost in this tragedy might be thinking, 'hey.. enjoy your life to the fullist and move on because you really don't know when it's gonna end.'
If saving a lot of $ and having the wedding of your dreams is living your life to the fullest then i would 100% have it on that day.

Re: September 11 wedding?
i dont think you should do it...maybe have a saturday day or a thursday wedding to keep costs down. i just think that it is a very emotional day for everyone, and although you do not have any directly affected, maybe one of your guests do, and that may not be a joyful day..
IMO saving money isnt worth it

I would do it so long as none of your close guests or a number of your guests are NYPD or FDNY or lost loved ones.
I personally think enough time has already passed to have the same date. I know two people who have their bday that day and the first year or two we thought ohh man that stinks but now no one even says anything (I know that's a lil diff since you don't pick your bday but you get the point).
Also, I feel like people remember/observe the 9/11 attacks in the morning- that's when there is the moment of slience, the name reading on tv, etc. If anyone noticed there was hardly and 9/11 news specials on in the evening this year.
If you do it I would definitely stay away from putting 9/11 on any things like matches and napkins. September Eleventh Two Thousand Whatever, (like on your invites) looks much better.
I would honestly do it. I really wanted to get married in June and if 6/6 was 9/11 and the only reasonably priced evening in the month I would have done it. I'm not saying I wouldn't think about it at all but I don't think it's disrespectful or tacky or anything like that.
i COMPLETELY AGRRE!

Re: September 11 wedding?
I wouldn't do it because my mom is a survivor and its a very reflective day for her. She lost 2 friends and few coworkers. I also lost a friend.
Plus being that this is NY it kind of is a sad day for everyone.

Re: September 11 wedding?
That's a tough one. Like others said I personally wouldn't do it... but I lost my best friend that day so it would be hard. I am always sad on that day and I wouldn't want anyones sadness overshadowing my celebration. I also think the fact that it is in NY makes it even more difficult and like someone pointed out lots OOT guests would be anxious about traveling on that day. So things to think about. If none of that bothers you then I would go for it. Have it at night so its like a new day almost as all of the memorial stuff occurs in the am. I also like the suggestion of having a donation favor to 9/11. I think that would be very touching. Good luck with your decision. Ultimately you and FH have to be the ones that are happy with the choice. If it allows you to be able to have it at your dream place and neither of you have reservations about it then go for it.

Re: September 11 wedding?
I wouldn't. One of my BM's lost her father in the attacks and I think it's unfair to ask her to celebrate with me on a day that she mourns.

Re: September 11 wedding?
I would do it.. It would give me something to really celebrate about that day. I wouldnt do it if there was someone in either of our families or close to us that was lost on that day.
