so im surprised I couldnt find a more recent post about this (last was 2004). Is anyone getting married on September 11/ how do you feel about the date? Its one of the only fridays left at a hall i love and the price is INSANE compared to their usual friday night price. This makes me think people are still hesitant abut the date but just wondering what the ladies think....I personally have no problem with it (I think the only reason we even remember the exact day is bc it specifically termed 'the sept 11 attacks') FH doesnt love it but loves the price , haha
i added a poll but thoughts are welcome...

Re: September 11 wedding?
If it was my wedding, I wouldn't do it. A lot of our guests are in the fire department / police department and since there are always memorials going on that day, or even that weekend, I know a lot of people wouldn't be able to attend a wedding. FH also lost a friend that day and I wouldn't want to have our wedding on that day out of respect for him.

Re: September 11 wedding?
I actually went to a wedding on 9/11/05 and it was quite nice. It gave everyone a chance to celebrate, have a good time, and enjoy being with their friends and family.
Yes, it is a sad day in history, but also could be a day to celebrate what we have and be grateful for it!!
ETA: Yes...I agree if a close family member/friend of you or FH was lost maybe you should rethink.

ITA, thankfully we were not directly affected. my stepdad had a 9 am meeting there but he was late so watched it happen from outside!! Blessed to not have a personal connection, I know.

i think you do what you think it is okay - me personally I wouldn't touch that day with a ten foot poll for another 5 more years but I wouldn't say anything if someone else planned something on that day.

Re: September 11 wedding?
My Dad is a member of the FDNY, so I definitely wouldn't. But, I can see the temptation. I think if you and your family don't mind, then it might be a nice way to remember and celebrate.

My FIL is a fireman. That day every year makes me so sad. I sit every year and listen to the names being read, and cry. I think its ok to have it that day but for me and my personal preference I couldnt do it.

Re: September 11 wedding?
I would do it so long as none of your close guests or a number of your guests are NYPD or FDNY or lost loved ones.
I personally think enough time has already passed to have the same date. I know two people who have their bday that day and the first year or two we thought ohh man that stinks but now no one even says anything (I know that's a lil diff since you don't pick your bday but you get the point).
Also, I feel like people remember/observe the 9/11 attacks in the morning- that's when there is the moment of slience, the name reading on tv, etc. If anyone noticed there was hardly and 9/11 news specials on in the evening this year.
If you do it I would definitely stay away from putting 9/11 on any things like matches and napkins. September Eleventh Two Thousand Whatever, (like on your invites) looks much better.
I would honestly do it. I really wanted to get married in June and if 6/6 was 9/11 and the only reasonably priced evening in the month I would have done it. I'm not saying I wouldn't think about it at all but I don't think it's disrespectful or tacky or anything like that.

Re: September 11 wedding?
That day still has negative vibes for me. I still don't like to come into the city on 9/11 but I have to. I remember watching the whole thing from my office window........
Personally I couldn't book that date.

Re: September 11 wedding?
When FH and I were looking at dates for Sept 2010 we noticed that 9/11 was a Sat. Both of us agreed 'No' . We just couldnt do it that day. We are having it a week later on the 18th

I would do it. You will always remember it as your 'wedding day' not as the septmerber 11th attacks.

Re: September 11 wedding?
are lots of your guests coming from OOT? I know my family is weary still of traveling on that day (planes, mass transit, etc). Just something to think about.

Re: September 11 wedding?
I wouldn't because this is New York. If we all lived in Georgia or someplace that wasn't as close to the attacks, then I think it's ok.
(By the way, in NO way am I implying that non-NYers can't feel emotions).

Re: September 11 wedding?
There is no way I would ever book my wedding on that date because I grew up in Manhattan and I know a lot of people who lost loved ones but that's just me. I don't really see anything wrong with booking that date but I know I would never be able to.

Re: September 11 wedding?
I would never do it but it's not my wedding. I understand that life goes on....but this is NY.
We were offered that date and FH and I both yelled out NO right away. Our banquet manager wasn't surprised. Everyone had turned it down.

Re: September 11 wedding?
i wouldnt mind, if you feel a little weird about the date maybe you can do a favor donation to 911. If the price is right and you dont mind go for it.
