I have heard from several people that many reception sites are drastically lowering their costs for September 11 weddings because of the delicate nature of the date and because so many people do not want to get married on that date. I am trying to plan my 2004 wedding, and was hoping to get married in October, but we are on an extremely tight budget for approximately 150 people, and I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about this. Sept. 11 is a Saturday next year and I would love to be able to get married Saturday night, but obviously the cost is too much. Neither my fiance nor I are adamantly opposed to getting married on Sept. 11, although we are aware that some people will have something to say about it.
Putting aside any emotional or other issues that arise with the mention of that date, does anyone know of a) any specific venues that are discounting their usual prices, and b) how much they are discounting?
Thanks in advance!

Re: September 11 weddings
Just to add to this post and ignore anything but the main issue....My reception site is Belmont racetrack in Elmont- Their prices are very reasonable for any day of the week- mine ia Saturday and significantly lower than most catering halls. I would try to give them a call - the place and grounds are gorgeous, they just redid the tent, the food is amazing...Check it out!
ooh and I made the 5th page!!!

Re: September 11 weddings
I just read through all of these posts and I'll keep my opinion to myself. However, I do have one comment. According to my calendar 9/11 is on a Thursday, not Saturday. Wouldn't this be an inconvenience to guests?

Re: September 11 weddings
I'm kidding! I'll post where I decide, but maybe I'll just keep the date to myself.
I've been extremely stressed out about this and can't wait to just book a place and get it done with so I can get to the fun stuff!

Re: September 11 weddings
Well, I could always question whether to have Chilean sea bass at the reception (North Ritz Club actually told us it probably won't be available by the time we were thinking of getting married due to the uproar about it)...or perhaps wearing a black wedding dress, but somehow, I think this will be my legacy! LOL
I'm glad to see that not too many people got too twisted about this topic. Phew!

Re: September 11 weddings
When we were considering a Sept 04 wedding I had wanted the 2nd week (which was 9/11). My FH's friends asked why we didn't have it that day bc they thought it would be nice to have something positive to remember about that date......just something to think about. (Many of them were in the WTC and my FH worked there as well. Thankfully all were ok)

Re: September 11 weddings
Palebride, I could think up plenty of controversial topics, but really, I'm not a sh*t stirrer most of the time. Now, if someone else has something controversial to post, you'll probably find me somewhere in there, but I tend to avoid starting any myself were I can help it.
I'm just a little surprised that no one else has ever brought it up.

Jannshari--
My 2 cents.....You pick the date that works for you! I booked East Wind for Sunday, October 17, 2004..an evening wedding. MY FH is jewish also soa afri and sat afternoon would not work, and the Sat evening was too much for my taste...what kind of budget are you wroking on>> I think Sat night was 74.95++...But come November, the price is significantly lower....maybe check out around Veterans Day Sun Night because most everyone has off on the Monday...
TO get back to 9/11--they did say they had a really really hard time booking the date, for this year and for next...thy were going to offer a substantioal discount but because I was not interested in September, I did not pursue it...Doesnot hurt to call and ask, they were really good about amking it within our budget and even called a day later to take off another $5 a head.....does not hurt to call around.....Some dates on Sat Evenings in October they would even take off $10 a head...so go check thngs out....GOod Luck!

Re: September 11 weddings
Have your wedding whenever you & your FH want to have it. Nobody on LIW is paying for it no matter WHAT date you choose!
If you really want to know if there's a price difference, I would first ask about any other date in September. Then ask about 9/11 and see what they say. If you outright ask if they offer a discount for that date you may not get an honest answer.
Congrats on your engagement & good luck!

May be my imagination running wild (or trying to get another post) but don't be offended by Firsttimer's negative posts. He/She is obviously a vendor if you look at their previous posts---and here they are making fun of the number of people's posts but look who is lying to promote their company. Just my 2 cents.

Re: September 11 weddings
Oh & lemme add that we saved $25/pp by having our October wedding on a Sunday evening (on Columbus Day weekend & many of our guests are off that Monday - another bonus!) as opposed to a Saturday evening. We even added a few extras on - would've saved $30/pp!

Re: September 11 weddings
I wouldn't have a problem as a guest going to a Sept. 11th wedding. (And yes I lost friends as well as having some NYPD relatives) It was a horrible day but our lives must go on. They get what they want when we alter our lives. If you're concerned about $ I just had a Friday afternoon affair. It was cheaper and many people were eager to take off and have a three day weekend. Do whatever works for you and FH. Important people will be there even if it's a Tuesday night!!!
