Re: Share your proposal stories

I was very involved in the purchase of the ring, because FH is clueless.

He bought it on 8/27, and asked my parents that day. On 8/28 at 11something at night, I told him I was really tired, and wanted to go to bed.

He gets up to leave and says, 'ok, um, here, lemme give you this. Will you be my wife?'

Yup, that was my proposal. He never even said, Will you marry me!

I cry when I think about it - I always dreamed about a special, romantic, PERFECT proposal...and this was nothing like that at all.

Awww don't feel bad. My FH is not romantic AT ALL. He proposed to me in my room. But I loved it b/c I knew that was more his way. If he had planned something romantic I would have figured it out b/c thats not like him.

After 5 years together, I thought he could've put a little more into it.

I totally freaked out!! i finally said yes and was hysterically crying!! his whole family knew about it and talked about it infront of me, but i really dont understand Turkish too well so i had no idea!! it was amazing always a trip to remember.

My engagment was a total shock to me, although we had talked about it from the day that we had started dating in 2003. For about six months before he actually proposed we talked about getting married more and more and he kept telling me that he couldn't wait to get me a ring but we both knew that he didn't have the money and I was completely fine with waiting until he did. Well last August he decided that it was time and after kind of a boring day we decided we needed to get out for a while and go to the mall. I needed to buy a birthday gift for my best friend anyways so I said lets go shopping. He promised me that if we went he'd spend money we didn't have and I said whatever because I just wanted to get out. So off we went. Right away he picked a fight with me because I was window shopping and not shopping for my friend. Little did I know this was a mere distraction. He got me so mad the way he was yelling and telling me to go shop by myself he was leaving if I wanted to waste time, I couldn't understand it and was soooo hurt. So off I went, figuring we both just need time to cool off. Well he went off and bought the ring and about an hour later found me with a huge smile on his face, and was ready to work things out.
I had no idea why he was suddenly oh so happy and kept asking him what was wrong and to be honest I was still a little pissed but just wasn't in the mood to argue. He asked me then if we could go for a ride somewhere and I was like sure whatever, I had bought my gift and was ready to leave. While driving he kept asking me how I would like to be proposed to be I sitll wasn't clued in yet because we had had this conversation many times before. We were passing Argyle Park when he asked if I wanted to stop and walk around the park. I said sure because I love this Park, I grew up going there and it always brings good memories. So as we walked we were talking about life and he had this huge grin on his face, I kept asking what was the matter and he said can't a guy just be happy to be with someone that he loves. I just didn't get what was up but I could feel that something was different.
We stopped walking and he started to pace back and forth while we were talking. While in the depths of our conversations about work and how to balance career and children, he simply got down on his knees and asked me to marry him. Very sweet and simple, yet totally surprising and loving that I was shocked speechless. Then he called my mom and told her that he wanted to spend the rest of his life taking care of me and loving me and then I started to cry my eyes out. It took me a full week or so to really realize that I was engaged and I cannot wait now another year and a half to be his wife! :)

Re: Share your proposal stories

My FSIL called me at work and told me that she was coming over to my apt. with her kids that night to videotape a message for my FFIL's birthday which was a week away. She told me she was going around to each family member and having them tape a nice greeting for him. Being as this fits her character and this family videotapes everything, I didn't think twice about it. When I got home she was trying to rush me to say my message, but I was resisting, trying to get her to have FH say his first. FH was in the other room with his nephews 'watching t.v.' (little did i know he was giving his 3 year old nephew instructions). So, FSIL starts the camera, and I start saying, Happy Birthday Mr. E, blah, blah, blah, when 3 year old nephew comes up to me in the middle of my speech and tries to shove a plastic thingie in my face, (it was one of those plastic bubbles you get from the 25 cent machines in stores). I'm thinking the kid wants to show me some silly toy he got at the supermarket, so as he's persistently shoving it in my face, I start to push him off me and I'm telling him, 'I'm in the middle of taping a message for Grandpa...go in the other room'..poor kid got so frustrated I wouldn't look in the bubble that he throws it on the coffee table, stamps his foot and shouts...'NOOOOOO.....UNCLE E WANTS TO MARRRRRYYYYYYY YOU!!!'. That's when FH comes out of the other room where he was lurking and I look down and see the ring in the plastic bubble and start crying. All caught on tape. We all still laugh our a**es off when we watch poor nephew's frustration! I just got chills all over again writing about it!!
