I say no because of the traffic situation that is already a nightmare. Family has a Hampton's house, and they are NOT happy about it AT ALL!

And this is coming from a real gambler (DH and Me)

I REALLY hope it won't be!! There is already way too much traffic in the area and it's getting worse every year all on it's own.

We are buying a house in Sullivan County, right outside of MOnticello. I am thrilled because my property value will go up soon!!!!.

Alias... I know you are from Middletown so I don't have to tell you about 17, but do you really want all that traffic in your backyard? IT IS GOING TO BE INSANE!!!
They can't handle the growth as it is...

It's like a third world country in some parts, I think it's be better for teh county. They have no money coming in, their houses are like shacks and need to build it up. I don't mind traffic. It's just a summer home, but they need something up there. They have no tax money coming in either because Monticello has the bungalows and most of teh people in them don't pay ANY property tax!

Third world country? Its lovely and rural, but don't worry the people are coming so it won't be like that for long. Its changing from vacation spot to primary residence for many people. There is virtually no more land in Orange, and people are commuting to NYC from Sullivan.

But I hear you on the tax-free crap ie, Tax Free Parcel it just continues to stay off the tax rolls... its BS.

I thought Indian Nations didn't pay taxes? I guess the state gets a cut no matter what they decide to call it.

Sorry...kp I know you started this about LI Casinos...

I think its a great idea..

first: take a look at what Americans did to the Native Americans...

second: it would be a great boost for the LI economy...yes traffic may be an issue...but MacArthur could expand and the tourism business could boom

third: Native American gaming does give back to the community...in the forms of school donations, scholarships, etc...

Re: Shinnecock Casino - Should it be built???

I am from there, and Middletown is developed. But I drove around for awhile a few weeks ago and I saw alot of things that disturbed me. We are buying in Smallwood, and most of the houses are falling apart. There was garbage on their lawns like cans and diapers, but I think with more jobs they will start to rebuild. I was really bothered by what I saw. SUllivan county has some beautiful parts, minisink, otisville, MOunt Hope, Mountaindale, Bloomingburg...but the closer to Monticallo, teh more rural it gets, tehy houses were falling apart. They weren't even taht old.

And as far as teh taxes, I had teh appraiser at my house when I was up there, and she was explainging it all to me. If I have to pay, everyone should have to pay.

No, it has nothing to do with the Native Americans!!!!! They should not have to pay, I am refering to the bungalows where they buy there homes and claim that they are religious camps and they do not have to pay taxes. It just bothers me. That is why they have a poor education system up there.

its ok Kate - I live in Riverhead and FH commutes to the Hamptons (Hampton Bays - east) every day. I have my opinion about the subject, I dont think it should be built, I was just wondering what everyone else thought.
