Shiny pennies?

Original post by pameladhd

I am putting scratch off tickets on the tables at my eparty. I got the cute glassine envelopes and I want to put a shiny penny in each one with the ticket itself....however I just went to Chase Bank to get 100 shiny pennies and the girl there told me they dont have new ones. She told me if I want I can buy copper cleaner and clean them myself.

Does anyone know where I can get 100 new pennys from?

Is that true? Where did you ever learn that?

I found that too. Googled 'shiny pennies' and that's what came up. It's the acid in the vinegar that removes the tarnish.

It's scary but true, I tried it when I heard that a while ago!!!

Re: Shiny pennies?

So, just an FYI -

after I cleaned all those pennies for my scratch-off favors I threw them in a ziplock and put them in the closet with the rest of my eparty stuff. I go back in there last night to start making them and all the pennies have turned BLACK!

I am not sure why, but they are jet black (as though they have been painted!).

I freakin' give up at this point.

I just wanted to let you guys know NOT to try to clean pennies with white vinegar and salt, lol!

Too funny.

Are you going to try the hot sauce now ?
Noxon is a copper cleaner that you can find in hardware stores and some supermarkets. I use it on brass and copper.

I might if I have time. Although FH might start to think I'm nuts if I give cleaning them another go!
