Shiny pennies?

Shiny pennies?

I am putting scratch off tickets on the tables at my eparty. I got the cute glassine envelopes and I want to put a shiny penny in each one with the ticket itself....however I just went to Chase Bank to get 100 shiny pennies and the girl there told me they dont have new ones. She told me if I want I can buy copper cleaner and clean them myself.

Does anyone know where I can get 100 new pennys from?

hmm - try another bank, maybe?
find a female teller and tell her what you're using them for

Try soaking the pennies in a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar for a few minutes, then rinse with cool water.
This should take away the tarnish.

Someone at my job suggested I write to the treasury. Is it too bridezilla to expend so much time for pennies for this? Am I crazy?

Yea, kind of. Just put out the pennies as they are, or if you really want them to be shiny, use salt and vinegar to remove the oxidation. If you call the US treasury with this request they probably won't be pleased.

I found that too. Googled 'shiny pennies' and that's what came up. It's the acid in the vinegar that removes the tarnish.

A little high school science. And it was true back then unless they changed their secret recipe. Imagine what it does to your stomach!!!

I actually remember the salt and vinegar trick from Brownies, way back when! That little trick not only helped me earn a badge, but it really works! Haha!

wont Coke or Pepsi do the trick too ? I hear if you soak pennies in cola, it'll get it nice and shiny. Cola will clean your toilet bowl too.

I heard about the taco bell sauce too, FH and i tried it a lon time ago and it worked.

i feel like all these suggestions will work and i see your wedding isn't until 2010 so you have plenty of time even if you want to look around at different banks for shiny pennies ...
good luck

Thanks for the advice ladies. It is actually for my eparty. We have not set a date for the wedding yet so I just threw that one in there. We will probably set it for a year out from whenever we decide we are ready to set a date. I know we dont want to get married for a few years though.

i helped out my boss who was giving away photo frame piggy banks (don't ask ) at our summer staff party and she wanted shiny pennies put inside the bank so that people will know it's a frame + a bank. the bank suggested the u.s. mint but we needed them right then and there so we didn't have time to check them out. def try them
