shoot before the wedding??

Re: shoot before the wedding??

I'm doing the 'reveal' we are paying so much for this wedding I don't want to miss a moment of it taking pictures and such during the wedding.

I don't think it will necessarily ruin anything, I just think it will make that special moment more intimate because it really will be just between you and your future husband.

My plan is to have the entire bridal party take pictures at Westbury Gardens before the ceremony.

My FH and I really looking forward to that 'moment' in church when the doors open and I come down and we see each other for the first time. Having said that, if that's not a big moment for you, then I think it's perfectly fine to see one another beforehand. I would NOT let photos or a photographer swing the decision for you though. A good photographer should be able to find other ways to work around this. You need to do what you and FH honestly feel comfortable with because ultimately it's your day and you only get one crack at it!

We did, and I am glad we did got some great pics, and I guess being able to express our feeling to each other when we seen each other was sweet. Pics in my album.

I didn't see my husband before hand and I did do the after shoot a few months later. I think its up to you but if your husband wants to see you for the first time walking, you should probably just wait...I also wasn't someone who needed to go to my cocktail hour, I wanted to be announced in for the first time. we didnt see each other - but then again -DH & I - we're both very old school & traditional & felt it would mean more if we didnt see each other before the wedding - i think its more a personal choice/belief

I agree. This is one of the things we feel really strongly about. I don't want him to see me until I'm walking down the aisle. Everyone is different on this - go with your gut!

We saw each other before the ceremony and it was just as sentimental as if i had seen him for the first time coming down the aisle. I actually preferred it because it was a lot more intimate without all of our guests there. Also, the moment he saw me actually walking down the aisle was still super beautiful and amazing..to those who said it 'ruins' it to see each other before I couldnt disagree more! good luck!

We are doing 'the reveal' & taking pics before the ceremony---we are getting married at the RH and ceremony starts at 6:30 & CH starts at 7. We both refuse to miss the CH. Originally, I wanted him to see me for the first time coming down the aisle but the more I thought about it, the more it didn't really matter to me. We are going to thave the photog & videog. all set up & it will prob be on the beach where we're takin pics beforehand. I think it will be just as special as me coming down the aisle....& I like the fact that it is just infront of our BP and not nearly 200 people staring at us! It really just comes down to what you & FH want and what you're comfortable with.

Re: shoot before the wedding??

thanks for all the advice. I think im going to stick with NOT seeing eachother, only because I know in our hearts that is what we both wanted before all this persuasion came up. Also, we are NOT going to miss any of our reception!! We want to have a big entrance and the whole nine, so we both never imagined ourselves taking part in the CH anyways... and all the pics with me and my bridesmaids and him alone with his groomsmen are going to be done before...
I am going to speak to my photographer tomorrow about more casual shoot the week after the wedding... we are going tomorrow for our engagement shoot!! Im very excited!

I always wanted to have that moment when he looked at me for the first time as I came down the aisle. Its my favorite moment in any wedding and a moment I refused to lose. I love seeing the grooms reaction to his bride and I couldn't wait for his.

It didn't disappoint either. It was that moment, catching his eye and seeing him look at me that calmed me down and made me feel as if only he and I were there and we were all that mattered at that moment.

I personally recommend having that moment.

Re: shoot before the wedding??

My wedding is in March at 6:30, but we are still doing our pictures after. For my FH< it is a big deal that we wait, and like you said, he doesn't really have many opinions or things he feels strongly about, so I am willing to do that. I am a bit old-school-traditional, too. Even for the sake of pictures, we both would give that up to have that first moment in the church, walking down the aisle.

I am doing family/bridal party before - and so is he, separate location, then we'll do ours later. The photographer should be good enough and creative enough to do some great shots even w/o the natural light.

And for us, he thinks the reception is too long anyway, lol..so he is fine if we miss the cocktail hour.

Personal choice, but I have always dreamed of that moment when the doors open and I walk down the aisle and that is when he is seeing me for the first time...I wouldn't give that up, even for good pictures.

That's just me, though!

what about doing more journalistic shots before the wedding. just make sure he doesn't look at you and you don't look at him.
I know it sounds weird, but a friend of mine did that a few years ago, they got some really great shots too!

or maybe do some 'to be edited' pictures, where you do the shots, then he does the shots and they 'crop' you two together...

Ok so I want to know what you girls think about the idea of 'seeing' eachother before you walk down the aisle.

I am getting married mid-october at 6:30. Naturally by the time our ceremony is over, it will be pitch black outside. When I spoke with Patken about it, they strongly suggested doing a 'reveal' before the wedding so we could get some shots of the beautiful fall foliage and scenery. I know I will be compramising some potentially gorgeous shots by not seeing eachother before the wedding, but I really feel like it might ruin that moment when I walk down the aisle and its almost worth not getting pictures just to have that one moment.... what do you guys think about it?? any past brides done the reveal?
are you for it or against it??

We are seeing eachother before the wedding. Some people take as many seperate pics as they can before the wedding and then take the together pics after the ceremony so you can do that as an option that way you will still have pics taken in the day light and you wont miss out on much during your CH.

My ceremony is at 7pm and we are going to the RH for pics around 4. I really want to enjoy my CH and not have to rush for pics! i don't care what anyone says, FH seeing me come down the aisle to marry him will blow him away no matter how many times we see eachother b4 the actual ceremony!

I'm doing pics before the ceremony too. It won't kill the moment when he sees you walking down the aisle because believe it or not, guys are super excited the day of as well and they will give you a look filled with love and excitement and adoration when you are walking down the aisle even if they have seen you before to take pics before the ceremony. its all up to you though. If you are more traditional, then wait until after but if you are contemporary, then do it before. It's all about you guys.

Re: shoot before the wedding??

we are doing pictures before, then we need to sit down with the Rabbi before the ceremony and sign our katubah. so any way we see each other before.
IMO there is no comparison between the reveal and walking down the aisle. 2 very grand moments that do not get ruined just b/c u see each other before the ceremony.
There is so much emotion and so much weight in what it means to walk down the aisle that just b/c u saw each other before doesnt mean that diminishes.
Again that is my personal opinion. Plus I guess being Israeli and Jewish we do it a bit different so maybe my view isn't as helpful.
In the end I think you should go by what u feel is right. If u want that moment of walking down the aisle to be the 1st moment, the do it. There are some gorgeous nite pix u can take and then book some kind of trash the dress shoot for after the wedding.

Re: shoot before the wedding??

i was thinking about having the bridal party do pics before and do pics with grandparents, parents, etc. then after the ceremony do pics with us and the rest of the bridal party. that way we have the best of both worlds.
