Ok so I want to know what you girls think about the idea of 'seeing' eachother before you walk down the aisle.
I am getting married mid-october at 6:30. Naturally by the time our ceremony is over, it will be pitch black outside. When I spoke with Patken about it, they strongly suggested doing a 'reveal' before the wedding so we could get some shots of the beautiful fall foliage and scenery. I know I will be compramising some potentially gorgeous shots by not seeing eachother before the wedding, but I really feel like it might ruin that moment when I walk down the aisle and its almost worth not getting pictures just to have that one moment.... what do you guys think about it?? any past brides done the reveal? are you for it or against it??

Re: shoot before the wedding??
i wouldnt see fh before the wedding, even though it su cks that it will be dark out i feel like that ruins the moment of seeing fh for the first time walking down the aisle, its up to you though, ive seen some beautiful night pics as well... can you move up your ceremony time at all?

Re: shoot before the wedding??
Im really see where you are coming from about that 'special' moment when walking down the aisle. But i agree with the whole logic of doing pictures before the wedding. Especially since your getting married in October you won't be able to get good outdoor shots.
Before getting engaged i never would have considered seeing each other before the wedding but now that I'm planning, I see the logic in it. I would go for it but weigh which matters the most to you,

I am doing pictures before the ceremony. That way we don't have to rush, and we can have the whole cocktail hour. I wasn't sure about losing the moment walking down the aisle, but we get the 'reveal' and I know that either way it will be a really special moment!

Re: shoot before the wedding??
My ceremony is at 7pm and we are going to the RH for pics around 4. I really want to enjoy my CH and not have to rush for pics! i don't care what anyone says, FH seeing me come down the aisle to marry him will blow him away no matter how many times we see eachother b4 the actual ceremony!

Re: shoot before the wedding??
We are doing our pics before the wedding for the same reason...since in January it gets dark at like 4:30! Honestly, before i was engaged i never would have even considered doing this, thought it would take away from the moment when i first walked down the aisle...but now i'm convinced it's the best thing for us. We will be able to take our time taking pics together before the ceremony. it will be an intimate time just FH and I and FH even told me that he prefers it since it would take away some of the nerves that he would have at the ceremony ;) I saw a video of someone's 'reveal' and it was such a special moment that i was tearing up. Also if you do the pics with FH before the ceremony you will most likely have more time to spend with your guests at your wedding. in the end, you have to do what you really want. If you really don't want to see him before hand then i'm sure something can be worked out...you may not get outdoor pics but i'm sure you can do indoor ones just as nicely. hth

I am kinda faced with the same problem also and have been considering moving my ceremony time up. Are you getting married at the rh? If so try to find a different spot earlier in the day.

Re: shoot before the wedding??
Is it possible that you could do outdor pics seperately to capture the day ? Then you could preserve the moment he sees you come down the aisl, the photog can edit some shots together not necessarily to make it lok like you were there together, but you know.. to make it look meaningful, like, you were each thinking about each other before the ceremnony...and then you can do inside shots together at night...
Patken won't take any night photos outdoors? I bet they could still get some nice shots of th etwo of you together to supplement seperate photos before the ceremnony

PS
Dooo-hoood!
You're getting married at CHCC? Is the pool area still physcially open, as in not covered, in October? The lighting in the pol area and even int he gardens is phenomenal, if PAtken will do it, get some outdor night time photos, really...
I personally don't feel it's worth it to do the reveal, but that's JMO, everyone has a different priority and a different sentiment. Up to you

Re: shoot before the wedding??
We're going to take picture before the wedding... We'll do a reveal and at least I know my hair and makeup will look good at that point... Do whatever you feel best about... you don't want to regret the decision later on. If you want to wait to see FH until you are walking down the aisle, I would do that and then just find some other times to take pictures throughout the night.

Re: shoot before the wedding??
I didn't do it but we did see each other the night before our wedding to rehearse our first dance over, lol. We were more surprised during the ceremony when we finally caught a glimpse of each other for the first time. And I'm glad we waited until the ceremony since the rest of the day got hectic. I'm not against brides and groom seeing each other before the ceremony. If you feel it works best for you, go for it!

Re: shoot before the wedding??
We saw each other before the ceremony and it was just as sentimental as if i had seen him for the first time coming down the aisle. I actually preferred it because it was a lot more intimate without all of our guests there. Also, the moment he saw me actually walking down the aisle was still super beautiful and amazing..to those who said it 'ruins' it to see each other before I couldnt disagree more! good luck!

Re: shoot before the wedding??
I was def. going through the same thing. I could have moved the ceremony up, but then what would the guests be doing during the gap of time between the ceremony and reception? What really helped me to make up my mind was when the photographer said that they will still catch the first time that we saw each other. This was the most important thing. I figure that now I will have two special moments, the first time he sees me before the ceremony and then when he sees me coming down the aisle. It will be nice to have the traditional pictures out of the way, so that we can spend as much time as possible with our guests at both the cocktail hour and reception.
Either way you go, it will be fine

Re: shoot before the wedding??
We are doing as many pics before the ceremony as possible. We will make the 'revel' special. I was thinking that it might be better to have that moment together in private rather than in the ceremony in front of everyone. JMO

Re: shoot before the wedding??
Our ceremony is at 7:30pm in May, so we're definitely taking pics beforehand. I think its just as exciting maybe a little less stressful, more confidant and just as sweet. We're both paying for the whole wedding, including vendors, so we want to enjoy it all and make the most of our daylight for pics, not to mention time with friends and family and we want to mingle at CH. I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

Re: shoot before the wedding??
Thanks for all your input ladies!! I am still so torn, I have mixed reviews from you all as well!! I dont know, I was considering doing a trash the dress session after the wedding so we could get some more pics outside and in the daylight. Patken actually suggested that to us. FH is very dead set on not wanting to see me before I walk down the aisle. He doesnt really bother me with much of this wedding stuff, so i feel like I should give him this one. I wish I didnt have to choose!!! I totally know what you mean when you say before you got engaged it was something you were totally against. I felt the same. Now im considering it!! I really dont think its that BAD of an idea, but its just something I never pictured myself doing. I always envisioned the moment I saw FH in my white dress would be walking down the aisle. We dont even want to spend the night together the night before! My mom is against it as well and is telling me that in the pictures we wont actually be 'married' so therefore they arent wedding pictures.. can you believe her!!...

Re: shoot before the wedding??
We are doing all of our pics before the ceremony as well. I refuse to miss any part of my wedding after being involved in my cousins wedding and she not only missed her cocktail hour but missed an hour of her ceremony!!!

Re: shoot before the wedding??
we didnt see each other - but then again -DH & I - we're both very old school & traditional & felt it would mean more if we didnt see each other before the wedding - i think its more a personal choice/belief
