shopping Spin off- Do you hide purchases from your S/O?

Original post by dm24angel

Like the fact I went shopping while DH was at work. If he asks when Im wearing my new clothes if they are new, I will say yes, but if he doesnt ask, well oh well. Is this wrong of me??

It is technically my money, left over from my own paycheck not used towards anything else that I spent??

But I sure as heck am not gonna offer up to what I bought.

we share 100% of our money so no, I never hide anything.

Same with me. He tells me everything he buys and I tell him everything I spend.

I wouldn't call it hide, I would just say remove tags, throw out bags etc... before he can see!!!

nope, once you're married, it's not just your money anymore, spouses should be informed of all purchases

I have to disagree. Yes, I hide things. And this is bc my DH flips out if I buy a $20 sweater from old navy. It is the #1 source of our arguments. So, yes every now and then I will 'hide'something.

not to judge but i will say this, hiding the purchase doesn't make it go away. One day, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, you're going to get caught, and the argument will be far worse that it might have been

I buy whatever I want, whenever I want, and so does he. We don't hide a thing. Actually I just bought a time share with my sister!!

I don't but mostly because my mother has done this and my dad gets upset. I don't want to get into this pattern with DH.

NEVER - In fact DH is usually the one who takes me shopping but even if not I ALWAYS show him EVERYTHING unless of course it's for him!

Nope. And we don't combine all our monies. I have my left over money and he has his and we are 'allowed' to spend it however we want. I still tell him whenever I buy something or if I'm going to buy something and he tells me because even though it's our 'own' money, we still feel like it's 'ours'.

I feel no need to hide things or apologize for anything I buy and neither does he.

yes I do. He will ask, oh is that new, and I will say , no I bought this awhile ago

I only did it a few times. I feel bad because I know if I just tell him I want something he would let me get it..(maybe after a little ranting and raving).

same here. we're not extravvagant shoppers, but if we see something we want, we pick it up whether the other one is there or not. for BIG purchases... we usually discuss it with each other... but big purchases are usually for Us as a couple anyway, so it would make sense to talk it over.

and we dont pool all our money together... he has his, i have mine, and we have ours, and i love it like that

No, infact DH is more of a shopper than me. He doesnt hide things, but when a package shows up at the door he is forced to tell me! LOL

Diane I totally agree with you LOL

My husband always ask me, 'So what did you buy today?' I feel bad, but sometimes I just need to buy it

well every situation may be different. In mine A fight wouldnt happen, its my money. I dont see ( could be a newlywed thing) that all of each others money becomes'our' money. Just a difference in opinion. I hide it mainly because I just feel sometimes I admittedly wasted soem money and dont want him to say the same...lol
If he did find out, in our relationship, there wouldnt be much he could say, its my extra money that we dont put into savings, use for bills etc.
So I was just wondering more or less if people hid things to not get lectured.
I didnt realize there were so many differnt types of money relationships out there.
