So I got engaged in August, but in my mind I've been engaged since January. I've always wanted a fall wedding, but after many many discussions, I said to FH, wouldn't it be cool to have a 12/13/14 wedding? He agreed, and it ended up that we actually booked that date. I love it and couldn't be happier with what we picked. Now, I have my photographer, and an idea of who I want for my DJ, but everyone is telling me to slow down and that not everything has to be done right away, since the wedding is a year and 2 months away (a year and a half in everyone else's eyes, not sure why? lol). I'm a planner, and I am constantly living in the future. Anyone else feeling this, and if so, any ideas on how I should RELAX? I'm just so excited, I can't help it!!

i almost booked 12/13/14 before we fell in love with TVI!! congrats!! it's a great date!
i think there is no harm in getting started on booking the major vendors ... you want to make sure you get exactly what you want!
congrats again.

There is no harm in starting to book major vendors, especially if you have specific vendors in mind. If you look at the 2015 boards, they are already booking their vendors. If you wait too long, you might not get the vendors you really want.

Do what you want!! I feel you to a T. I already have my dress ordered! I just didn't wanna wait. I want to breathe easy in the months leading to wedding, not running around in a panic!

Get your major vendors out of the way now while you have a decent picking to choose from.. Thats my advice.. less than 6 mos out adn I am still debating Photo/Video!! I am banging my head!!

Since it is probably a popular wedding date I would do what makes you comfortable. I have been engaged since 5/12 my wedding is almost a yr away I wanted to take my time and book vendors and not feel panic or rushed.

Thank you all so much! I feel better knowing its better to get all the big stuff out of the way, and that I really am getting my ideal vendors by booking so far in advance!! :)

You're definitely not too early in booking those things. It's nice to have all the big stuff out of the way!

My wedding isn't until 2015 and I have my photo/video and dj booked lol...I am a planner and like to know what things are going to cost so I can budget accordingly.

No harm at all.. I paced myself, but I booked everything way early.. I haven't done anything that the vendor hasn't said 'well you have plenty of time'
Just be prepared to be annoyed with everyone lol. People don't want to talk about your wedding until they are themselves getting excited, so don't be disappointed when your in-laws don't want to hear about your limos yet. Now that we are about 9 months away, everyone has questions and excitement and I am like too bad, I did everything already and booked every vendor of my choice...for 2012/2013 prices too!

When we got engaged in August of 2012 we decided on 12/13/14 at Floral Terrace too - you're lucky we didn't go with that date!! haha Once I realized how far away it was - almots 2 1/2 years, I decided to change it. There was no way I wanted to wait that long and I have a lot of family coming from out of state and didn't want to risk them not being about to make it because of weather.
I definitely don't think you're waiting too long though - a year and two months will fly by before you know it! I can't believe I've already been engaged over a year and my wedding is so close. You'll be happy you've gotten a lot done as the time gets closer.
Giirrrlllll whaddup date twin! I've been engaged since 12/13/12 and had all my major vendors booked within 6 weeks of being engaged.
My venue, photographer and DJ have all been booked since February and I had a nice time relaxing (and saving). Now we just took our e-pics and waiting for them so we can do our STDs which were sending out in November bc of holidays and wanting all the OOT guests to have ample time to book and take dates off. Since it's a hot date and close to the holidays... I say don't wait!

I don't think it's too early. It'll probably be a popular date so you should book it sooner rather than later

Girlllll, I booked my venue, church, photographer/videographer, and band about 2 years in advance! And some people would ask me what the rush is, but you know what? I got the vendors I wanted the most (and at a cheaper rate than if I had waited until the following year). And I got to spend the next year pretty stress-free because I had the most important vendors booked. Now I'm 9 months out with basically 75% of the wedding ready to go, only small projects from here on out.
In my opinion, you can never book too early!

We got engaged 6/30/12 and are getting married 5/1/14. So pretty much 23 month engagement. People kept telling me to slow down and take my time. But you know what? I've had pretty much everything booked for the past 4 months, and therefore got to enjoy the last year of engagement without stress about planning.
Let haters hate. (I can't believe I just said that LOL) But seriously, no one knows what will keep you at the minimum stress level but you.
Plus, I like the fact that I had my pick of the litter of all my vendors. I have yet to be told that someone was booked for my date because I planned so far in advance.
