I am invited to a former-colleague's wedding.
When I got married, she never even sent back her RSVP. First she verbally said she was coming, then she verbally said that she wasn't. She never sent a card or a gift.
I know that I was on her B-List. (invite arrived 10 days before the RSVP deadline, and she was telling me about these other people who called her to say they wanted to bring more people, etc. etc.)
This is also the person who wrote 'Black Tie' because she thought that meant 'wear black' and didn't realize that it meant men had to wear tuxedos. When I talked to her about it, she said she didn't care if my DH wore a suit, she just wanted people to wear black.
Anyhow, DH and I agree that she doesn't deserve to have us 'cover our plates' (especially because she volunteered her 'per head' price and outright lied about how much she's paying)
The wedding is 6 miles from our home, and I'm always in the mood for a party

So, for that reason, I do want to go. (may as well, since it's right here)
But, DH is adament that we not spend a lot of money on a gift for her. So, I was going to spend maybe $100 on a registry item from BBB, after the coupon, it would be $80, plus shipping/tax. It would still work out to $100. I don't feel 'right' about writing out a check for $100. At my wedding, for some reason, we just thought the 'regsistry ITEM' was more generous than a $100 check from 2 people (even though they were the same monetary value)
Thing is, I know that if she gets pissy about the gift, she's going to be a pain the in @ss about it- probably say she never received it...etc.
DH says we just shouldn't go at all, nor send a gift. He thinks it's worse to go and give a 'cheap' gift.
I guess he's right, isn't he?
***update*** I'm going to send in the RSVP tonight/tomorrow to decline. DH laughed and said, 'hey, that's more than she did for us'
And, he thanks you all for persuading me to NOT go
