Should I just decline this invitation? UPDATE

Should I just decline this invitation? UPDATE

I am invited to a former-colleague's wedding.

When I got married, she never even sent back her RSVP. First she verbally said she was coming, then she verbally said that she wasn't. She never sent a card or a gift.

I know that I was on her B-List. (invite arrived 10 days before the RSVP deadline, and she was telling me about these other people who called her to say they wanted to bring more people, etc. etc.)

This is also the person who wrote 'Black Tie' because she thought that meant 'wear black' and didn't realize that it meant men had to wear tuxedos. When I talked to her about it, she said she didn't care if my DH wore a suit, she just wanted people to wear black.

Anyhow, DH and I agree that she doesn't deserve to have us 'cover our plates' (especially because she volunteered her 'per head' price and outright lied about how much she's paying)

The wedding is 6 miles from our home, and I'm always in the mood for a party
So, for that reason, I do want to go. (may as well, since it's right here)

But, DH is adament that we not spend a lot of money on a gift for her. So, I was going to spend maybe $100 on a registry item from BBB, after the coupon, it would be $80, plus shipping/tax. It would still work out to $100. I don't feel 'right' about writing out a check for $100. At my wedding, for some reason, we just thought the 'regsistry ITEM' was more generous than a $100 check from 2 people (even though they were the same monetary value)

Thing is, I know that if she gets pissy about the gift, she's going to be a pain the in @ss about it- probably say she never received it...etc.

DH says we just shouldn't go at all, nor send a gift. He thinks it's worse to go and give a 'cheap' gift.

I guess he's right, isn't he?

***update*** I'm going to send in the RSVP tonight/tomorrow to decline. DH laughed and said, 'hey, that's more than she did for us'

And, he thanks you all for persuading me to NOT go

If you want to go, go. Whatever gift you give her is just that a'gift'. If she has a problem with what you give and says anything, tell her to give it back to ya and you'll get her something better, nothing!! She didn't give you anything so at least you'll be attending her wedding and giving her something!!

I can see your DH's point but a gift is a gift and you are still giving a 'generous gift'

I personally wouldn't go - I'd rather take that money and have a nice romantic dinner with DH

I wouldnt go, but if you want to go, just go and give whatever you can. I think 100 is pretty low though because I got that from single girls at my engagement party, which I thought was nice. I would say you have to give at least 200, but thats just me.

I agree, I hate trying to make myself believe that what I am doing is OK, so I say screw it, have a nice dinner just you too, and if you want to be 'that girl' don't RSVP either!

I know it's low. That's why I'm wondering if we should just decline the invite all together. There is NO WAY that we are going to give this person an 'average' gift.

Gifts are gifts. You give what you want to or what you can afford. You don't need to give more than that to attend. If you want to go, I say go. Don't worry about it. Have a great time.

I would not go she sounds like she would be a pain if you go or if you didn't. Go out with your husband and spend the $100 in a nice dinner.

Just wanted to share:

Dh called and I told him what you all said. He was like 'Oh, THANK GOD. I like them!'

I wouldn't waste your money or your time going to a party for someone you obviously don't like.

Actually, I do like her. She just doesn't really have it 'together' and that's the annoying part.

Well if you do wind up going, I think a gift from her registry for 2 people is kind of cheap, JMHO. I wouldn't feel right doing that. So since your hubby is not into it, you should probably just skip it.

It doesnt even sound like you have much of a relationship w/ this girl. STAY HOME!! If youre in the mood for fun, take your 100 bucks and you and our hubby go out into the city and have yourselves a nice night!!!!

Either save the $ and stay home or take the money and splurge on something for yourself!!!
