Shower-- how involved in the planning are you?

Shower-- how involved in the planning are you?

Just wondering how involved you all are in the planning of your shower. My mother doesn't live in NY so it's pretty much just my BMs planning it for me. So far, I think the only thing I'm really 'involved' in is helping pick out the invites and the color scheme--pink and white of course! Can I request that it be held at a specific place though (if I/my mother contribute $$ toward it)? Just wondering. Thanks a bunch!

I think the place is up to the host fo the shower...anyhow, how would you be surprised if you knew where it is..or won't it be a surprise?

Mine hasn't been planned yet. But that is all I am hoping to do. I want to be completely surprised.

I picked the place and the menu and gave the guest list! - I know when it is and I am sooo happy about it. I get more stressed when I don't know what is going on.

I don't want to be involved other than providing the BM's with a guest list. Good thing b/c I can't even get the wedding stuff done as it is.

Because of my work (I'm an attorney, aka indentured servant to my firm), I sort of need to know when it is so I can make sure I don't have to work. They've kind of been asking me for guidance on what style of shower I want, but I'm just not sure how specific I should be. If I know exactly where I want to have it, should I say that?

I think you can tell them if you have a preference where it's held. They might be grateful for the help in making that decision. Plus I'm sure they want to have it at a place that makes you happy.

i haven't been involved at all, except i've been told it will probably be in april.

if you are being asked for your preferences, and you know where you'd like to have it, i say definitely tell!

as for me, i am staying out of the whole matter - last thing i want is another event to plan. i am struggling with just one!

I'm pretty much working with my mom to plan to whole thing... really wish I wasn't since I'm exhausted from planning the wedding, but my MOH (my younger sister) isn't involved in any aspect of the wedding other than showing up that day in the designated dress. So no surprises here as far as the shower goes.

My MOH lives OOT (MA with a little baby) and I'm not having any bridesmaids so FMIL is helping her out.

As I'm the LAST one to get married, have a crazy job, take care of my Dad and usually am always busy doing something or taking care of someone besides myself (these are my MOH's words) she and FMIL are adamant that I not lift a finger for my shower. For example, it was 5:30 this afternoon before I realized I didn't eat lunch and I had today 'off' but have not stood still since 6:30 am) Some of my friends have been married ten plus years and while they won't admit to it we all weren't sure if it was ever going to happen to me.

My MOH has had my shower planned (theme, etc.) since before I got engaged. We have been best friends for 20 years (this year). They have a date. FH knows about it. I gave her an invite list. I know nothing else. I'm assuming because it's only her and $$$ is tight this year (she had major unforseen expenses) it will be at FIL's house but I don't know.

As far as you working... it's almost impossible to pull a surprise for me as well because with taking care of my Dad and work, I have everyday of my life booked with something. I told FH to just make sure I am booked for some phoney thing, that I think is real, weeks ahead of time. If not I will have appointments up the wazoo the day of my shower. Really, I haven't had a free day in 8 years.

I would stay out of it as much as possible. You deserve the surprise.

My shower is also being planned from out of state. I gave them an idea about what I wanted and how I wanted it to be. The planning is up to them. I actually had to get involved considering my BMs were about to kill my MOH. But that is a different story. Anyway, being the control freak that I am, I am not as involved as I would like to be. I don't see a problem in giving suggestions for place and time.

I am not really involved at all, but it will not be a suprise. I live in NC and the shower will be in NY (because that is where everyone lives) so they have to tell me when it is so I can take off from work and fly up for it. In fact, it will be the same weekend as the bach. parties for both me and FH. But it will be a suprise where they have it.

I am involved because it can't be a surprise because I live out of town. Basically I know the theme, (wine theme) and the favors, the date and the general ideas, but I think now that my BM have a theme and ideas they are going to try and keep me out of the loop so somethings will be a surprise

i give ideas of what i want but not more than that - i really want to be surprised - which is hard because i am out of town - but i gave thema list of when i will be home

I am completely involved. I know most ppl aren't, but I have a control problem, that I need to be on top of everything and know! I know its a major problem, and my mom and girls dont' want me involved, but its too late, I picked the date, the place and the menu with them....I don't mind it at all.....

I picked the place and the date. I als gave them the guestlist. That's my only involvement. showers are very rarely a suprise, no matter how much people try. Also surprise showers are a NY thing. They don't do that in the rest of the country.
