Shower-- how involved in the planning are you?

Original post by BlondeJD

Just wondering how involved you all are in the planning of your shower. My mother doesn't live in NY so it's pretty much just my BMs planning it for me. So far, I think the only thing I'm really 'involved' in is helping pick out the invites and the color scheme--pink and white of course! Can I request that it be held at a specific place though (if I/my mother contribute $$ toward it)? Just wondering. Thanks a bunch!

Im pretty heavily involved. My sister is trying to plan it from florida, so if there's any legwork to be done, Im taking care of it. I just sent out a newsletter to the BM's, so hopefully they'll want to get more involved.

Not too involved so far. I will give FMIL a list of the people I would like to attend, and she asked me when my sister is going away to college, to make sure she can attend. Other than that, I think she is taking care of the details.

The only things I've done are:

1. give addresses of the people I want invited
2. show them what sort of invitations I like (I'm a paper whore)
3. inform them that I didn't want any goofy stuff. Like I was invited to one shower, and was asked to bring a page of 'memories' to include in a larger book for the bride. And while this is a lovely gesture, I was unable to participate b/c I didn't really know the bride or have years of memories to share. So I asked for nothing like that b/c I didn't want people to feel left out.

Not really at all... my mom and sister (MOH) want it to be a total surprise.

I think it is okay to suggest a place for it to be if you have already helped pick invites.

I'm not into the whole surprise thing - I'd rather be able to dress nice and be rested up. I picked the theme (food and cooking!) and they are running with it. They asked my approval on the place and the type of food (Things I am super picky about) and I told them beyond that, I didn't want to be involved with anything else at all.

I'm kind of involved. Everyone comes to me on their own and says don't tell the others I told u... hhahahah I jus don't know the date!
I rather it this way, because I want it to be right!
My mom is telling the girls not to have a stripper because its low class. I told them to tell my mom, to take a seat.. hahahaha they won't really tell her that!

Well since they have to get me to NY (from DC)...I know and sort of picked the date (March 13) and I know the place (Stonebridge)....I am trying not to find out anything else but my mom and MOH keep saying stuff. I don't want to know anything else!

I wanted a stripper too and got the 3rd degree from FSIL telling me how trashy that is that bridal showers are suppose to be classy- blah blah blah - so she won no strippers for shower but def bachelorette party. Id rather it that way too so the older woman dont have a heart attack!!!

well I told the shower coordinators to put on the invite that the stripper will be there at such & such time and the shower will follow at such & such time this way folks can determine wheter they want to see him or not!

It's MY DAY!

I am completely involved. I know most ppl aren't, but I have a control problem, that I need to be on top of everything and know! I know its a major problem, and my mom and girls dont' want me involved, but its too late, I picked the date, the place and the menu with them....I don't mind it at all.....

hahaha. I'm the same way, but my girls and my mom are putting 'their foot down' (much to my dismay and anger) so I'm trying to just go with the flow. But I NEED to be in charge of everything. I NEED to make sure it will all be nice and sweet and perfect, but they won't let me! *whine* :D

I'm nervous about it, honestly. But I've tried to get more info and no one is cooperating with my controlling-side ;)

I'm fairly involved, as my MoH (sister) and best friend from college (BM) don't really know each other. About half of the people who are coming are traveling in from out of state, and some will be staying with me. So the date is not really a surprise. I didn't realize that surprise bridal showers were such a big thing!

I just gave a list of names and some suggestions. I would rather see all or most of the faces and have it in someones backyard rather than only being able to invite some of them and have it in a fancy hall. But i am leaving it up to them. But i do have a girlfriend that is planning her hole thing b/c she hates suprises.

I'm pretty involved. My mom lives in Florida and my MOH lives in NJ. We are having my shower in NJ, at a relatives' house. So, I'll know ahead of time when it is. I don't like surprises, so this works well for me.
