Ok ladies....I have only been to two bridal showers and 1 i was in the wedding party. After addending these I was shocked at how boring they really are...No offense to the bride of course but I guess it's just the nature of a shower. a bunch of women sitting together playing silly games and oooing and ahhhing when the bride opens presents.
That being said....has anyone every been to a really interesting shower where the guests had a really great time. A shower where it wasn't really a chore for people to show up? I would love mine to be a fun event....I have tried to research this to no avail...any thoughts?

THERE ARE different type of showers you can do.
Maybe a sex and the city party and do it more of a cocktail party
a spa party-you have people there that will do mini make-overs for the women and massages...you can give make up as a favor, lotions or something like that.

I think a lot depends on the family / friends of the bride that are there.... If they are fun- the showers tend to be more fun. If they are dry, boring shower. I think games are fun to help break it up- some of my faves are when the groom is asked ?'s ahead of time to answer. The panty game where everyone brings undies and the bride has to guess who they are from (they write a little note about a funny story and attach) and bridal bingo is fun b/c seems like everyone gets into it to win a prize.... And, keep it to 3-4 hours MAX- that's all that I think people want to spend at a shower....

that sounds like the type of shower i'd love to have, but i don't think it would go over too well w/ FH's side of the family.

Ok, one shower i went to we played like a million games.
Game #1 Each guest received a list of items, and you checked off if you had those items in your purse.... Whoever had the most items won the center piece.
Game #2 (well really not so much a game, more like an activity) Each guest received a blank index card and wrote down a piece of advice for the bride
Game #3 toilet Paper bride
Game #5 Bingo with presents (this will help make sure people pay attention!)
Game #6 Have a timer go of after a certain amount of miutes and whosever present the bride is opening gets a prize! (this too will help make sure people pay attention!)
Game between Bride and mother of the groom Each were asked a series of questions and they had to see who knew more
Umm..... there are more but i have to think about it

I had a tea party shower at a tea salon in the city. It was very different, and I think everyone had a good time. We did not play any games.
When we got there, we mingled for a bit, until the waiter rang a bell for everyone to sit down. Salad was served to everyone, and of course tea. Then they came around with tea sandwiches. Next we had scones and clotted cream, and last 2 kinds of cakes and petit fours. After that they moved the room around for me to open my gifts. After the gift opening, everyone said goodbye and left! It was like traditional afternoon tea - no cheesiness!
You can do like a Alice in Wonderland shower theme or a Wizard of Oz

i agree they are horrendously boring. a theme would be fun, but we have huge amounts of people at our showers so i don't think it would work... a lot of them are old too.
IMO though, baby showers are 10x worse then bridal showers. I would love a cocktail style shower.

omg, lady mendls is the cutest place! I went there with one of my bm's when she was visiting in may. we loved it so much.

why would anyone play a game to see who knew more about the groom between the mother of the groom and the bride. Thats kinda scary I have a mamas boy and i know she would kick my *** at this game and if she didn't she would prob hate me lol

I dont know what kind of shower i want....but i do know id rather one without a time restriction. i have been to so many showers that the bride is rushed thru. I dont wanna rush through my gifts, i wanna play games and have a good time!

WELL ANOTHER game i saw that is fun is they have the groom answer a bunch of questions about himself and then at the shower the bride is asked these questions about her FH, she is given multiple choice and every answer she gets wrong they stick a piece of gum in her mouth.
the funny part was i went to fh's friends fiancee's shower and she got a few wrong but they were funny and we were all wondering what the answer was, well when we met up with our fh's, bf's or husbands we asked them(grooms friends) the questions and they ALL knew the answer right away

See that's the thing...the bride loves sitting there and slowly opening presents...cause they are for her. But no one else there wants that part to go slow. I wouldn't want people to dread being there...
