Showers for my sister on Saturday! Review!
Hello ladies! I haven't been on much because I was busy planning my sister's bridal shower (kikipenz). I couldn't post anything about it because my sister lurks on here and I really wanted her to be surprised. She wanted her shower to be on the water to compliment her beach themed wedding. So at the beginning on March I went down to the Nautical Mile. Kathleen was a great help to me, post about shower locations on the water so my sister wouldn't become suspicious. Thanks love!
After spending a lot of time in the restaurants that were open, I decided to book at JC Cove. I never put a deposit down. HOWEVER, I did call there every few weeks and let them know via email that I wanted the place. Every time I called I asked if I had to come down and put a deposit and sign the contract and they kept saying there was no rush. I have to stress that I was constantly in contact with them. I then ordered the shower invites from simplyweddingstuff.com. This company is FANTASTIC to work with! Great service and fast shipping. I found the perfect invite for my sister's shower and ordered it.
It came quickly and looked beautiful! I also printed up my own wishing well cards with a person relaxing in a beach chair. No pics right now so I'll post some when I get home.
I ordered frosted sea shell coasters from ebay. They were cheapest around. The seller was Favors by Buckeye
Favors and cps
Fast forward to a week before the shower, Friday, May 26, 2006. I called JC Cove to let them know that I wanted to pay in full and finalize the contract. They tell me that I have to move my shower since they recently found out that the Freeport Festival would be happening that weekend. I was DEVASTATED and shocked! They refused to honor the verbal contract and email I sent since they could make more at the festival. Rather than flipping out and acting like a lunatic, I went into damage control gear. I started researching locations on the water and my sister's FMIL suggested that I check out Fisherman's Catch in Point Lookout. I called them and luckily they had the date available. I told them I would be there in less than an hour and John and I went to dinner there. The food was delicious and the seafood was really fresh. I signed the contract and Scott, one of the managers, totally put me at ease. Not an easy thing to do since I now realized I had to contact 32 guests and inform them of the changes. I spent most of Friday night making little cards to mail to everyone and addressing the envelopes. They were mailed bright and early Sat. morning. I then spent the entire next week trying to create a new plan for scenery, since the shower was supposed to be outdoors. I honestly believe that everything happens for a reason. It poured rain on Saturday- meaning we would have had the showers indoors, which was not as nice as outside (I was also told that the festival was cancelled due to the weather- makes me feel a little happy!
) Dana, who is another manager, was great to work with also, She helped me set the menu and constantly reassured me. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good meal or looking to have a party. They were really professional and pulled through in my time of need.
I really wanted to recreate the beach for my sister and think that I managed to do it. For the bridal chair, I thought it would be cute for my sister to have an Adirondack chair. The wishing well was a tub that you could put drinks in, and the bridal arch was a palm tree
We also put up a border that had beach cutouts that one of my sisters made. The cps were purchased at Kohls while there was a huge sale going on. It was a candle with a beach base and scattered shells on the table
There was also a collage of my sister and her FH that one of my sisters made. She did an excellent job and my sister and FBIL will be able to display this in their house.
The cake was from BJ's in Middle Village. I also bought 6 pounds of cookies there. Everyone loved the cake and cookies, especially the bride to be! They did an excellent job.
Overall, I think my sister had an amazing time, despite being sick with a fever and ear infection. I do feel bad though, because so many people bought stuff not on the registry. However I hope my sister knows how much we love her and wish her much love and happiness.
