This really does not apply to me, but I was having a conversation with someone and it came up.
Is it customary to ask FH's sister to be in your bridal party and in turn he should ask your brother?

Re: Siblings of your mate-
I think that is usually a good idea - that is what we are doing.....if not, I would at least have them be part of the wedding somehow (readings, etc.).

Re: Siblings of your mate-
We are not having his brother or my brother in the wedding. My brother cannot be counted on for anything, and he does not get along with his brother. We decided that his brother would be an usher instead of a GM...this was to keep his mother from complaining so much.

We did this. It's not required. It's just a nice gesture and a nice way to bring the families together.

I don't know if it is customary, but that is what my brother did for his wedding, and I am doing for mine! Which brought my bridal party up to 12 people on each side! YIKES! If I had it my way I would have a BM and a MOH! But it is a personal decision! Good Luck!

Re: Siblings of your mate-
Fh has both of my bro's as ushers and we have his sisters both reading. I would have had them as BM but they are both older (late 30's), have kids and live out-of-town..so I think it would have been really hard on them.

Re: Siblings of your mate-
My brother is a GM, but that's only b/c he and FH really get along, and I would box anyone who tries to prevent my bro from being in my wedding, BUT not all siblings are that close, and it is not done all the time, so I would say it is not MANDATORY, but if there is a good relationship, it is a nice and thoughtful gesture.
In a case where the sibling is a jerk, NO WAY

Re: Siblings of your mate-
I think it's up to the B&G if they want their siblings. FH has no siblings but if he did and wanted them in it, I would have done it. I am VERY close to both of my brothers and I wanted them to be in the bridal party, so they are both GM.

Re: Siblings of your mate-
i don't believe it is mandatory, but i think it's a great gesture and a wonderful way to blend the two families.
FI is having my brother as one of his GM, and I have having his sister as one of my BM's.

Yes we are doing this- we are both very close with each other's families but even if we weren't that close I still think it's a nice gesture. FH is having his brother and brother in law as his best men and my 2 brothers are GM. I am having his sister as my matron of honor!

Re: Siblings of your mate-
NOT according to me. You know the deal... But if we were friends... I probably still wouldn't have her in the BP rather read or do something else.
Of course I am having my sister in the BP. I am also having my 'brother' walk my mom down the aisle.

Re: Siblings of your mate-
I am having my FSIL in my bridal party for political reasons - I'm keeping the peace. I'm not crazy about my FBIL (he's my FH best man), but it makes my life easier in the long run.

I don't think it is mandatory but I think a lot of people do it. My mom freaked out because I told her FI was not having my brother. My brother is in the wedding- I just wanted to get her mad.

Re: Siblings of your mate-
To keep the peace, I am having FSIL in my bridal party. It is a bit annoying, as I hardly know her- she lives pretty far away, and I have probably spent 10 hours w. her over the last 2 years. But whatever, it will make FH and FMIL happy, so she is in.

I will be having John's sister as a BM and my brother will be a GM. I, personally think that brothers and sisters should be included in bridal parties

Re: Siblings of your mate-
I think it's a nice idea... don't really know if you HAVE to but, I have usually seen it done this way and honestly I like the idea... I have two brothers and they are both Groomsmen... if FH had a sister she'd be a BM...
I am in a wedding next year and the bride is having BOTH of her FH's sisters as BM's and she doesn't even like one of them! haha!
