OK..sorry to rant here, but I'm getting tired of this... All of the photographers that we've been to are not really working with us. We DO have a BUDGET that we're trying to work in and I don't think they undertand! The pictures they have been showing us are beautiful, but they are not listening to me when I tell them what I want with my budget. We tell them that we do NOT need parent albums b/c of the extra cost and they tell us that we can instead use the cost of those books towards our album....I DO NOT NEED MORE PICTURES!! I WANT YOU TO TAKE $$ OFF THE PACKAGE!! My bridesmaid is a photographer (still in college) and told us that after the wedding she will blow up some picks for us and even do that black/white photos with just my bouquet in color, etc, so I do NOT need more picks!! They then tell me that the package is as low as they can go. And THEN 'suggest' that we go with the most EXPENSIVE package just incase we want more pics after the wedding is shot! GIVE ME A BREAK! We have been quoted about $2,000 for a B/G album 2 folios and 50 TYs and 1 -11x12, 2 -5x7s for about $2,000. But I also don't want the folios and no TYs. I just want to have my own TYs(just a card, no photo). I KNOW that most of my friends/extended family will NOT hold onto those pictures, and they will get thrown away in the end. SO, does ANYONE know a photographer that will do what I want and take out all the crap I don't need AND lower the price?!?!? We were HOPING for a package about $1000-1,200. We've spoken to ADA, Marco, VIP & Renessance (sp?). I think that's it. The wedding is in Suffolk, at East Wind Country Gardens. 4/18/04. Sorry for the rant!

You should go in and tell them what your budget is. Just say this is what I can spend so can you put together a package for that amount. You should even say that before you make an appointment. Can save time.

Post on www.weddingchannel.com under Local- NY. Your budget is a bit low, IMO for many of the well-known photographers. Here is the problem- I think that the photographers don't want to book you at such a low cost, when another bride might come along and want the full package (thus, making them more money). I FULLY understand that you do NOT need certain items and that should be respected. You probably need an independant photographer who will just let you have your photos and negatives to get your own stuff created.

Actually we were using the florist that is making our bouquet, corsages, etc. It was going to be a ring of flowers and then we were going to make a peice to sit on top that was going to have a plate with 3 candles and sand/sea shells surrounding the candles. But, I want to do something a bit smaller. Prob Hurricane lamps with sand/shells instead. And THAT we're going to make ourselves.

I have a wonderful photographer, doing my entire wedding well under our budget. He is willing to do what you want-not to mention he's a great guy. He is very creative, so if you're looking for standard stand around for hours while the photographer puts thirteen lights on you photography-he's probably not for you. He's very professional and he works in black and white and/or color, and can do wonderful documentary style photography (which is why we chose him). I don't think that your photography budget is unreasonable at all. Definitely call Patken. Tell them what you want and what you are willing to spend. That's what I did.
I went in with exactly what I wanted...and he offered me a good deal..
ie. I didn't get parent albums (my mom didn't want!!) and the price was lower
also my sister didn't get a parent album AND her BIL gave her a beautiful album from some exotic hawaiian wood ...so she negotiated lower b/c no album...

Check out Ed Collins - Ed Collins Photography He has a few cheaper packages & may work with you. His offices are located in Soho but I'm sure he'd travel to Suffolk - just told us he went to Jamaica & Connecticut for weddings! :) tell him Kim sent you. Good luck

I know Imagine Studios is pretty good about working with you on your budget. I don't know if they can swing $1000, but Lia will definitely work with you on changing the packages around so they fit your needs. And she does BEAUTIFUL work!

I know you don't want parent albums, but we paid about $1500 for our 24 pg album, 2 12-pg. parent albums, engagement pics, 2 books of proofs, a color photographer & a photojournalistic B&W photographer. We used JDP Photography, as did my sister and aunt and we were all thrilled with our pictures. You can try my photographer- she has a very inexpensive package- I think she can just shoot & you get the negatives and you can do the processing later & that would be in your budge.

I highly recommend Leli Photography for your pictures. I'm not sure if you already booked a photographer but he is absolutely amazing. I loved working with him. The whole day you will never even realize he is there taking pictures. All of our shots are priceless. He is very creative. We were working on our album and the ideas that he came up with were great. I would think of something different to do and he just expanded on that idea. His prices were the best we have seen.
