I don't have a shutterfly account. what I do have are pics I have copied and put in 'my Pictures' folder from someone else's digital pics, can those be put on shutterfly?

If they are .jpg pics they can. Once you sign up on shutterfly you can add pics by downloading them right from your 'My Pictures' folder on your computer.
