Here is one from my fam, even though its not ancient but its weird and wedding related.
My mom and her immediate family came over from Italy in 1957. She is 1 of 5 kids.
Fast forward, my uncle (her little brother) meets his fiancee in high school. They get engaged and set a date. He gets a draft notice to report for Vietnam the DAY BEFORE his wedding! He goes to a lawyer, tries to get it postponed so he can report on Monday after the wedding instead of Friday, the day before. The lawyer says no. That he can't do that, and the only way to is to renounce his citizenship.
He was no longer an Italian citizen because he didn't serve there (he was like 10 when he left) and then wasn't an American citizen so he never had a passport and couldn't leave the US! Insane!
I also found out when I did my father's tree after he passed away that my paternal great grandma was half a set of twins. I never knew there were twins ANYWHERE in my family! *Fingers crossed*

Oh wow that's interesting! They ended up going back to Ireland and having like 13 kids! They had a farm there. Then I guess one of the kids (G Grandmother I think?) ended up coming back to America bc that's how we got here...
Actually come to think of it.. I RECENTLY just found out a TON of family history through my grandfather on my dads side (he passed away now but b4 he died). Bricklayer is moms side. He did research and got a family tree dating back to sometime in the 1700's. It's like my 5th great something or other.

Kerri, are you aware that you can have a free three day trial to Ancestry.com, and discover all kinds of things about your family!!!!! I had a trial run, and stayed up day and night to get a ton of info. I even researched my new SIL, Fred's ancestors, and was able to give him info/pic of the ship his family member came to the US on!!!!!! Mary MOB

Re: Since I really love researching my family history, tell about something in your family history, that is really special to you!!!
My Uncle who was a Priest went to Spain to research our family history and learned that we were Jewish way back when. Pretty interesting for a Priest to find out. That same Uncle was the youngest monsignor in the world. I wish he was still alive so he could have married FH and I.
And on my Father's side, we have a great Grandma who was from Italy but she looked different- NOT Italian. An Aunt of mine learned that she came from either Romania or Ukraine. So my Dad who thought he was full blooded Italian learned that he was part Russian / Romanian. My great Grandma was adopted by Italians because her family who were gypsies left her. How horrible is that?

Well, nothing toooooooooo earth shattering with mine...
My nana's Irish side has been in America dating back to like the ship that landed after the Mayflower...so I'm pretty much as American/Long Islander as you can get. I believe her grandfather also started the first bus/taxi company in NY, but was bilked out of his business by a crooked partner. I should have been an heiress.
My dad's Italian side, I think his great grandpa had a whole separate family in Italy, or something really bizarre like that. And his mother and aunt married two cousins, so it's kind of that he's his own grandpa weird thing going on.
And on my papa's Swiss side, we're like 95% sure we're related to Renee Zellweger, going back to the official town birth book. The town my papa was from had 4 prominent families, and throughout the years they all kind of married each other, so that coupled with immigration records, it's pretty likely.
And this is just the stuff we KNOW, who knows what else is lurking in the past!

Wow, related to Katharine Hepburn? We have a questionable connection to Alexander Hamilton. And, Joe Bonsall, of The Oakridge Boys, is connected to our Family. Mary MOB
