A strong America must also value the institution of marriage. I believe we should respect individuals as we take a principled stand for one of the most fundamental, enduring institutions of our civilization. It reminded me of the (was it the second installment???) movie 'If these walls could talk'. There was one story where two older lesbian women were in a relationship for years - one was dying (or had died??) and her family didn't recognize her relationship with her companion...due to their own homophobic ignorance.
That's where my first example came from! (waaaaaay back on page 2 or 3)

Man, if someone said that to me, I would really feel verbally assaulted!!!! Sure Okay!!! are you serious or kidding. I am confused as to what is kidding what isn't. I am learning disabled so sometimes I have a hard time.

I agree with Coleen. I don't think I attacked anyone and I certainly didn't verbally assault anyone. I am not here to debate whether or not Pewweesgirl was attacked. Unless we are going to continue debating a worthy topic, I am done with this thread.

I think that it should be a govermental amendment. I think that if you allow each state to decide it might muttle the matter.

Well, right now the states DO decide. Unfortunately, most states have not legalized it yet. But I think as more and more states legalize same sex adoptions, we will see a trend towards legalizing marriage as well. The problem is that the Republicans now want to pass a law banning same sex marriage. They would prefer a Consititutional amendment so the Supreme Court can't overturn it. They are concerned because the the Mass high court decision striking down a law that banned same sex marriages. They are already strategizing how to get around any other similar decisions in other states.
Is there any discussion in NY about this. I would think, as liberal as NY is, and with the huge gay population in NYC, that NY would be moving towards legalizing same sex marriages.

I think it should be a governmental admendment, but at this time, I think it might be easier to let the states decide, so the more liberal states would allow it. I think the homophobes would have an easier time with accepting it, since they can home their state won;t allow it.

The beauty of this board is that we have soo many different individuals and so many diferent opinions.. we should be able to express ourselves and yet hear the other side out...It's amazing what one can find out about the other's view..
