since this is a wedding website - what is your opinion on same sex marriage?

Original post by yabbobay

our president is against it...and he says that you are too...what is your opinion?

A strong America must also value the institution of marriage. I believe we should respect individuals as we take a principled stand for one of the most fundamental, enduring institutions of our civilization. Congress has already taken a stand on this issue by passing the Defense of Marriage Act, signed in 1996 by President Clinton. That statute protects marriage under Federal law as the union of a man and a woman, and declares that one state may not redefine marriage for other states. Activist judges, however, have begun redefining marriage by court order, without regard for the will of the people and their elected representatives. On an issue of such great consequence, the people's voice must be heard. If judges insist on forcing their arbitrary will upon the people, the only alternative left to the people would be the constitutional process. Our nation must defend the sanctity of marriage.

The outcome of this debate is important -- and so is the way we conduct it. The same moral tradition that defines marriage also teaches that each individual has dignity and value in God's sight.

Hmm...those words look familiar to me, so I will respond.

That's not an attack, thats an opnion. The fact that you don't like it, does not make it an attack. Explain to me the attack. I didn't call you a name, I didn't attack your belief or the reason for it. I didn't even use particularly strong language.

I took issue with something you said that I thought was out of line and I pointed out that your posts, without punctuation are difficult to understand. Has anyone ever told you that when you type in all caps it is the same as yelling? Well, typing in one long run on sentance without punctuation sounds the same. Like you are so worked up that you can't take a breath.

Show me the verbal assault, yes the VERBAL ASSAULT.

It was brought up before you posted too, so there was no attack just unfounded, un backed up accusations.

The only contact I have with gay individauls are our client's and we have several that are in committed realtionships, and it is so sad to see they can't be married in the legal sense.

I know.

I've had contact with gay individuals my entire life. My oldest friend (I've 'known her' since the day I was brought home from the hospital as an infant!)...her father is gay. He had been in a long term relationship - about 20/23 years...when his companion died of a heart attack while abroad. It was difficult for her dad to make arrangements for the body to be flown back to NY, etc - b/c they weren't married...and her dad wasn't considered 'anybody' - in the legal sense - to his companion.

A childhood friend's father die of AIDs...

My landlord is gay. He's not the marrying type - we've discussed these things...but that doesn't mean he doesn't think it should be an OPTION for gay people.

I know! It's disgusting, actually.

It reminded me of the (was it the second installment???) movie 'If these walls could talk'. There was one story where two older lesbian women were in a relationship for years - one was dying (or had died??) and her family didn't recognize her relationship with her companion...due to their own homophobic ignorance.

Why would you not recognize the individual that brought so much happiness and joy to your loved one's life, I just don't get it. It is so sad that we live in a country that allows this to happen!!

Someone, quick, find the dead horse icon!

Beating a Dead Horse

Dakota tribal wisdom says that when you discover you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount. However, in business we often try other strategies with dead horses, including the following:

1. Buying a stronger whip.
2. Changing riders.
3. Say things like, 'This is the way we have always ridden this horse.'
4. Appointing a committee to study the horse.
5. Arranging to visit other sites to see how they ride dead horses.
6. Increasing the standards to ride dead horses.
7. Appointing a tiger team to revive the dead horse.
8. Creating a training session to increase our riding ability.
9. Comparing the state of dead horses in todays environment.
10. Change the requirements declaring that 'This horse is not dead.'
11. Hire contractors to ride the dead horse.
12. Harnessing several dead horses together for increased speed.
13. Declaring that 'No horse is too dead to beat.'
14. Providing additional funding to increase the horse's performance.
15. Do a Cost Analysis study to see if contractors can ride it cheaper.
16. Purchase a product to make dead horses run faster.
17. Declare the horse is 'better, faster and cheaper' dead.
18. Form a quality circle to find uses for dead horses.
19. Revisit the performance requirements for horses.
20. Say this horse was procured with cost as an independent variable.
21. Promote the dead horse to a supervisory position.

I don't mean to be a *****, but how do posts like this help??

It was supposed to make us laugh. This topic is like beating a dead horse

Have we lost our sense of humor

In my opinion this is not a Gay Rights issue, it is a human issue. No matter how different we are we all should have the right to Love!!!!!! And not only to love but to have that legally recognized. It is not a religious or an economical issue, it is a human issue!!!!!!!!!!

Peewee are you purposely being belliigerent?
Everyone has stated that they were trying to have an open debate. My suggestion is that if you cannot handle people differing with your opinon get off this thread and let the rest of us get back to the topic at hand.
