We have invited a number of single guests, mostly FH friends. I never thought about adding a guest for each of them until we were at a wedding this weekend where they brought guests. That will add ALOT of people to my guest list. Do you tell single guests to bring a guest or do you just invite them by themselves? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Single Guests
The genral rule is that if you know they are involved in a long term relationshop, then you should invite them with a guest (and true etiquette is that you find out the guest's name and invite them by name), but if they're not involved, then you don't have to invite them with a guest.

Re: Single Guests
we invited anyone that is engaged or has been in a long term/serious relationship w/ someone as a guest. Basically if you are our friend or family and are dating someone that we dont know about.. dont expect to get & guest on your invite!

Re: Single Guests
This has always been a big debate on here because it does add a lot of guests and money. I was initially against it for anyone who did not have a significant other, and then we ended up inviting all single guests with a date. You know what - a lot of single people ended up just coming alone - you'd be surprised!! I think it's nicer to give people the option. I remember not being invited to a wedding with a guest and being annoyed - esp since I was dating someone!

I agree with what everyone said here- although there are some exceptions..
Anyone who we are inviting who won't know anyone else-- or not as many people, we are inviting with a guest. This applies to people of any age.
Also, we are inviting all my friends with guests. FH's friends we are not. All my friends come from different groups-- so, groups of twos and threes.. WHile his friends are all from his sleepaway camp- they all have know each other since childhood- single people can handle coming alone and not worry about their table, who they will dance with, etc.

Re: Single Guests
I'm 32 and most of my single friends are 32...I feel at this age going alone to a wedding is somewhat depressing. We decided to invited all our single friends with a guest - there was ALOT!!!
We feel family that are not involved should not be invited with a guest - since they know almost everyone there....it turns out that most friends are coming alone (since there's a bunch of singles that know each other) - the only one's bring a date are the few friends that don't know many people.
So it worked out for me.

I agree... Also, any of our OOT friends that are not necessarily dating anyone special, we are still inviting with a guest. We feel that if they are traveling all the way here just for the wedding, they should be able to bring a guest.

Re: Single Guests
i say yes everyone gets a guest sometimes people feel out place without one. but that is my opinion only and if your guest list is too high then most definately narrow it down as to who brings a guest

Re: Single Guests
We invited everyone with guest, but we had a pretty controlled guest list so we were able to. I just had too many people that didnt know each other and thought they wouldnt feel comfortable coming alone.
What I have heard though is a lot of people who are invited 'with guest' DO come alone...almost half..so it may not emlarge the guest list as much as you think.

Re: Single Guests
Our single friends who are in serious relationships got a guest, as did anyone who was coming from OOT.

Re: Single Guests
At 34 I've been invited to a lot of weddings. I can understand inviting single and unattached people without a guest. I have been invited w/o a date and didn't mind (I can understand the extra expense and the bride and groom having all of these dates they don't know) as long as the wedding was not OOT and I knew several other people who were going. A few invites were OOT and there was no way I was going to a wedding out of state by myself.
I think it depends upon your situation. It is definitely a way to manage the guest list. And who wants all of these strangers at their wedding.

Re: Single Guests
If our friends are not invloved with anyone by the time the invites need to go out by, they will not be with a guests. mOst of our friends are friends with eachother anyway. WE have 2 out of town guests we will invite with a guest because they dont know anyone.

Re: Single Guests
The only singles we invited with a guest were: engaged couples couples dating for a significant period of time people in the bridal party.

Re: Single Guests
WE ended up inviting everyone over 17 more or less w/a guest. We have some single friends who are coming alone and some who are not. (most are)

Re: Single Guests
I told all my single friends that are not in a serious relationship that they will get a invite for one and they were all fine with it because they know how much it cost

Re: Single Guests
rule of thumb, anyone over the age of 18 gets invited with a guest, serious relationship or not. If you know the significant others name, put it on the invite, but you should give your guest the option of bringing a campanion.

Re: Single Guests
anyone who was in a long term relationship had a guest, anyone who is coming from a different state got a guest and anyone that we knew wouldn't bring a guest we invited with one because it didn't matter.

Re: Single Guests
We did and guest for everyone because I would feel weird going to a wedding alone and wouldnt go likely. BUT a lot of people that we invited with guest are coming alone. So even though it may double your list, a lot WONT bring a guest so keep that in mind when you make your decision.
