Are you asking your fsil(s) to be bridesmaids? I feel I do not really know them all that well (only see them at fh family events.) How do I ask them? I have found a few 'Will you be my bridesmaid' cards -but they all say something to the effect of 'our long friendship'. I plan on making my own cards, but I need help with the wording....Any ideas??

Re: sister in laws as bridesmaids
I am asking both of mine... I am in my fsi's wedding in April and the other got married when my FH and I started dating, but over the past year or so we have become closer and I love her to death.. I would rather not have my brothers future wife in it, but I kinda have to if I am having FH's sister in it...

Re: sister in laws as bridesmaids
I asked my one of my FSIL's to be my maid of honor (Mich76) and my FI sister is also in bridal party. I couldn't imagine not asking them. They are a part of him just like like my brothers and sisters are a part of me the the marriage is the two becoming one. I also have a set of cousins and so does he. I think it depends how close you are to them. I should have asked my fsil to be my MOH from the very beginning but I didnt, I am glad the person I orginnaly asked backdown b/c Michelle and Cathy have been nothing but helpful.

Re: sister in laws as bridesmaids
We asked my FSIL (FH's sister) and her husband. I don't know them that well, they live in NC, but we get along really well and I feel closer to her than the other sister who we did NOT ask. She and FH don't get along all that well. She will do a reading and her daughter is the FG. We really wanted her husband to be a GM, but we figured it would be wrong to ask her husband and not her since she is the sister.
But the sister we did ask, we just asked. No card, no big to-do. My opinion is that if you are not that close, skip the big fuss with the cards and whatnot and just ask. I didn't do that with any of my BMs, even my closest friends. I'm glad I didn't make such a big fuss over it now too because they are turning out to be pretty unenthusiastic about the whole deal anyway. I would've been more disappointed, I think, if I would have made a big fuss and they acted the way they are acting now

I do think there's a difference bwt. FI's sisters and FI's sisters-in-law. The fact of the matter is that they're not your FI's sister, so you can get away with not asking them. I only asked mine because my FI doesn't have any sisters.

I am having my FSIL in my wedding party. She was overjoyed when I asked her. I am lucky that FH only has one sister. My wedding party is much bigger then I wanted it to be already.

I have my SIL as my MOH (My bro's wife) and FH's sister - not his brother's wife. We get along really well though!

FH doesn't have any siblings, but I have 1 brother & FH isn't asking him. They're not close. I'll involve him some other way- he doesn't want to read, he may hand out programs.

Re: sister in laws as bridesmaids
I had both my SILs in my bridal party, but we are all very close so it wasnt weird. However, my sister recently got married and my husband was worried about having her husband in the wedding party. They live in cali and no one really knows him well, and we dont really have a relationship with him.. BUT we decided to ask him anyway since he is part of our family. If you write a card to them, maybe just say how excited you are that you are all going to be family.

I am not having my FSIL in the BP. I know that she is upset about that but it was my decision and since we really do not get along I thought having her in the BP would give me nothing but aggravation.

I didn't ask either of them - and they're his sisters. His older sister will be a reader, plus she's over 40 so she probably wouldn't have wanted to do it anyway, and the other lives in Florida and in the 5 years FH and I have been together she has never come up to NY so it made it easy not to ask her.

I think you should ask whoever you want and feel comfortable with, I don't think there's a 'rule' you must follow. I invited my FSIL (FH sister) to be in my BP but I didn't invite my FH twin brother's fiance. First of all, they got engaged after us, and second of all, she and I don't really like each other so why would I want her to play a big role in MY day?!

Re: sister in laws as bridesmaids
I didnt want a really huge Bridal Party. It was big enough. I had my husband's sister because I am closer to her and my brother's and my sister-in-law (my brother's wife) they were engaged at the time of my wedding. I had my two remaining SIL (my husband's brothers wives) do the readings and still made them a party of our special day in a special way. It's hard you know. Especially when your families are big. He had 2 nieces and nephews to choose from his side of the family and I had 2 nieces and nephews. Although my nephews were really small at the time. We tried to do the right thing. So we picked 2 from his side (which were our junior usher and bridesmaid) and two from my side of the family (as flowergirl and ring bearer) I choose one of my cousin's sons for ring bearer becasue like I said my nephews were very small. the nieces and nephews that I have are my two matrons of honors kids. We are all so close that they consider me an aunt! One of them made me godmother to their Son.

Re: sister in laws as bridesmaids
My FSIL is a sweetheart, but I barely know her. And because she lives really far away and is on a different path in life than I am, I don't see us ever getting super-close. I chose not to have her in my BP, and FH is completely fine with that. He never expected otherwise. On my wedding day, I just want to surround myself with people I've known forever and feel a deep connection with.
