Skeptical...

Should I be skeptical about a DJ/MC that says he does not have any audio/video tapes to send me?

Skeptical...

I wouldn't choose a dj that I haven't seen or no one you know used them. They should have something that you can look at. Ask them if they have a tape you can view in their office. Or see if they are working at an event that you can go to. That's just my 2 cents! Hope it helps!

Well... If they don't have any demos...

can you go see them, and maybe they have something in their office for you to look at? I live out of state, and I picked my DJ by seeing their demo tape, and by recommendations from this board. I love my DJ and MC. Their demo tape was the best. They were so funny. I only picked through DJ's by their demo tapes. I wouldn't pick anyone without seeing something from them. They might just not have anything to give you, or some companies don't like sending tapes out because they never get them back. Who are you interested in if you don't mind me asking?

It's DJ Joey... Help!

he says he stopped sending out demos because they were too costly. I chose him because of the posts here, but I don't know anyone personally who has used him. I liked him because we had good phone conversation and his price was reasonable. I haven't been to see him because I'm planning from Virginia. How much are you all paying for both DJ and MC services? Just in case I need to look elsewhere. Thanks.

It`s DJ Joey... Help!

I don't remember him being mentioned at all, and I've been on this board over a year? The DJ's I checked out are Spin Around Sound, GIT, Invitation to Dance and another company, I can't remember their name. We got demo tapes from all of them. GIT they looked so unprofessional, and the sound wasn't that good, SAS we didn't like at all. We noticed the sound during the receptions were horrible, and it wasn't just from the tape, and the MCing was bad also, and then we looked at Invitation to Dance's demo. We were laughing through the whole thing. It was at a bridal show, but we got to see the different DJ's and MC's, and we saw their personalities. There were a couple of guys we didn't like, but for our wedding we got the MC we wanted, which is the head guy, Rick. It was a funny demo tape, definitely different... I know we made a great choice. We've met with them once when we were up on LI for Christmas. We met with our MC. There were great posts about them last year. But, a lot of brides here like the other DJ's I mentioned, that we didn't like. We only saw their demos, not them in action, in person. So, I would definitely check out the one's I mentioned if you want. They'll all send you a demo tape. But I did it the way you're doing it. From out of state. Good luck!

It`s DJ Joey... Help!

They should send you something. I actually think I saw your DJ at a showcase at my hall, the imperial manor. They had way to many giveaways for me personally and also the one guy I forget his name that was MCing Grabbed me from my seat and made me do a conga with him holding my hand and thought it was funny to joke to everyone that 'wow, I totally lost this bride's business' It was actually pretty funny b/c my dj was there too (Diamond Cut Productions) and they were laughing! ** not sure if it was the same DJ.. but you could ask them, I am almost positive** They have to have a demo tape or a tape of someones's wedding they can send you, I mean tell them you will give them a deposit on it and when you return it they can take it off the price of your wedding package but that idea is even BS b/c I would think you are giving them a decent amount of money that they could afford to trust you with there tape. If you can trust them from out of state that should be able to trust you. (boy, I hope that made sense)

DJ Joey/Jam

Jam Entertainment, DJ Joey, right? I was thinking about calling them also, because of the favorable posts I've seen on here, they have definitely been mentioned at least 4-5 times in the last 3 weeks or so....

It`s DJ Joey... Help!

Hi there! I am using Joey from Jam entertainment for my October wedding at the Sans Souci. He is the house DJ at the Sans Souci, and I booked him based on the recommedation, our conversations, his price, etc. I also went to see him at a wedding back in December, and the dance floor was packed. (I believe I emailed you a few months ago and went into detail). Anyway, `Nina` from this board is also using Joey for her June wedding. Maybe you can reach out to her. I hope Joey is great!

I'm using him

I'm a little nervous reading these posts, b/c I've never seen him/heard him (besides his voice over the phone) either. I know it's a risky not seeing demos or hearing from firsthand experiences, but I got 2 excellent references from Sans Souci and Three Village Inn, where he is one of the house DJs. I called both places and spoke to banquet managers. Can't remember which one, but one of them was going on about how great their New Year's party was and Joey was the DJ. I think the fact that he doesn't have demos directly explains why his prices are so low. He's less commercialized, and has a smaller business than other companies, but I didn't get a $650 quote anywhere else. Bottom line, go w/ your instinct. I'm pretty comfortable with my choice. My wedding is in June, so I'll let you know!

nina?

I booked him also for the same date! Is your wedding day or night? I remember him saying that he had one more dj left for that day when I booked him, though. You actually booked Joey, himself, right?

DJ Joey/Jam

We saw him at a friend`s wedding last summer. I thought they did a great job, outside of the music being just a bit too loud for the room. I wouldn`t think too much about a company not having a demo tape. Look at it this way, a smart company would only put their best stuff on a tape, so what is that really telling you? Definitely go with your instincts. If you get a good feeling from your vendor, and feel you have made your best choice, then relax. Afterall, this is your wedding and everyone has different tastes and beliefs, but it`s you who should be happy. Your opinion is what matters most when selecting your vendors. Don`t second guess yourself .. you`ll add unneeded stress.

That was the one thing I really liked about Eddie, how he seemed to not play his music too loud but at a enjoyable level so that there wasen't screaming. Did you notice he played that way??

070502 - re: Parameters and DJ Joey

Yes, the music Eddie played was at a perfectly enjoable level. I think sometimes the shape and size of the room can be a big factor, and maybe some DJs don`t take that into account or miss making the proper adjustments. The room we saw DJ Joey in was a long rectangle. The DJ was at one end, and the bride and groom were way across the dance floor at the other end. The guest tables were in single file along the sides of the dance floor, so it was like a tunnel that the music just shot right through. In our room at John Anthony`s, the set up was the opposite. The guest tables were clustered at the two ends, with the dance floor right in the middle of the room, and the DJ straight across from the bride and groom the short way. So, in our room, the music had plenty of space to disperse to the ends where the guest tables were, and our tables weren`t right on top of the DJ stand. While the music by DJ Joey may have been on the loud side, I do have to say he obviously played exactly what the groom had requested .. heavy metal! While many may not feel that type of music is appropriate for a reception, and maybe some DJs would be uncomfortable with such a format, this was the format of the night at this particular wedding and DJ Joey stuck with it, with only a few typical variations. Even dinner had its share of heavy metal songs!
