Marcella,
that is becoming more popular these days.
Where did you order your dress ? Did you ask them?
Usually the Bridal shops will order extra material with the dress directly from the designer and the shop's seamstress will make the sleeves for you.

I've seen this done before.

hmm, no I didn't, I will call them up.. so do I just tell them to order extra fabric? is that all?

Re: Sleeves?

No, first you have to make sure their seamstress is talented enough to make the sleeves, next you have to deicde exactly how you want them to look, like depending on the material of your dress you may want the sleeves to match exactly or with beads or even sheer sleeves.
If it is to match exactly, make sure they get the material from the actual designer of your dress, and if it will have beading, they should order this from the designer as well.

The key is to make it look like the sleeve is part of the dress, and not something you decided on at the last minute, you know what I mean?

Do you have a pic? I've seen some in Bride books, when I get home, I'll flip through and see if I find a couple for you to use as example.

Unless you have complete confidence in your seamstress - you are better off taking it to a true dressmaker to have this done.

Ive seen it done by seamstresses before and a lousy job can destroy the dress. Sleeves are not as easy as they look - make sure you have someone who knows what they are doing.

You see, I don't think that the seamstress will know how.. I mean, I don't know but I'd rather go to someone who KNOWS how to do this.. If you guys know of someone, please let me know.

Re: Sleeves?

I am having sleeves added to my dress too. What the shop did was have me talk to the seamstress and choose a fabric from the gazillion they have. Then we kind of made a temporary sleeve for me to try on with the dress. After choosing the fabric they ordered enough to make the sleeves. I haven't choosen the style I want the sleeve to be yet, but at my first fitting I will do that. So now I am just trying to figure out if I want and detail work added to the the cuff or anything like that. I would talk to the seamstress at the store. One dress shop I went to was useless, and the seamstress didn't have a clue...so I didn't even bother trying on dresses there bc i know i want sleeves. Good Luck!

Re: Sleeves?

I added sleeves to my sleeveless dress. I went through three different sets of sleeves before I decided what kind I wanted. I got it done at Adrienne's, and I did like what they ended up looking like. Can someone e-mail me at '[email protected]' so I can e-mail you the picture, and then you can maybe (please) post it for me - I'm having trouble posting the pictures. Thanks!

Re: Sleeves?

I had sleeves made for my dress too. Some manufacturers offer 'sleeve kits', or extra material to make sleeves for your gown. I would have the shop call and check.
