Slide show before announcement at wedding

The place I am getting married has a screen to have a mini slide show of you and your fh growing up and dating etc. before you come in for the formal announcement by the band. I thought at first it was a little cheesy but now might be having second thoughts about doing it. Of course fh thinks I am nuts as he always does when I have another suggestion about planning the wedding! Has anyone ever seen this? If so or if you have any ideas, do you think all of the pics should be of me and my fh or should I put in family member pics? Should it just be played with music from the band in the background or should I tape a narrative that goes along with the show? If so who should narrate, me and my fh? or my brother or someone not related? Thanks for your thoughts!

I am doing the slide show thing too, but mine is with my DJ, not a band. They are going to do lots of pics of me and FH growing up, family members and so forth, also a few slides during the first dance (i think) and then also some live shots of everyone dancing during the reception. I loved the idea from the get-go, my MOH thought it was a little cheesy too at first but when she saw what the DJ could do, she thought it was really nice...

Hi Fran,

My girlfriend used the screens at her wedding last August and it was AWESOME!! We're actually doing the same thing (FH was so-so about it until I made him watch my girlfriends' video and see what it was about). I didn't think it was cheesy at all. I thought it was a great way for the families to see the B&G through the years.

I'm just starting to pick out the photos for it - some will be just me growing up, some will be shots with my brother and I. I looked for the cutest photos. It's up to you what shots you use. FI and I are going to use 'I Could not Ask for More' by Edwinn McCainn while the slides are playing.

If I remember correctly, at my girlfriend's wedding the DJ introduced the parents and the wedding party. Just as the B&G were to be announced, the DJ made an announcement - something like 'before we introduce them as husband and wife, the B&G - the early years' and dimmed the lights and played the slides. Everybody loved it!!

We're doing this too but not before our announcement.. we feel it would take away from the build up of having us introduced..

our videographer will be spending the day with us a couple motnhs before the wedding where he'll videotape us and then FH and I will give him between 20-40 pics of us.. from birth to present with all sorts of music and special effects and what not.. we will also be able to say our thank you's to our guests and parents and it will be about 8-10 minutes long and it'll be played during dinner..

our videographer will also be including this 'love story' as he calls it in the beginning of our wedding video.

IMHO I think it is not the most elegant thing to do. Are you attending your cocktail hour or staying in the bridal suite? If you are attending then doing the whole slide show, huge intro thing is a bit anti-climax anyway. people have already been spending time with you. Again, this is JMO! Everyone should do what they want to make their day perfect for them.

well as far as elegance.. I guess you're right and it depends on the individual, however, I don't see how elegance has anything to do with doing something like this..

also, I will not be attending my cocktail hour and neither is the bridal party.. we will be on a dif floor of the building.. not in a bridal suite but rather a speakeasy with our own cocktail buffet/waiter/ and bartender..

Make the slide show the same pictures that are going to be at the begining of your video..this way you only have to pick out pictures once!!

Fran....I used to work at B'nai SHolom for about 10 years!!!! (Tell Dave Beth&Jonette say HI!!) I LOVE THE SCREENS!!!! I remember when I worked there I would always say I wanted that......Unfortunately I'm not having it My FH and I agreed either video or screens so I took video. It's not tacky at all!! I used to get tears in my eyes watching people I DIDN:T EVEN KNOW!!(i'm probably better off not having it because I would cry like a baby ) I think they used to put music to it but not from the band, it was recorded. I don't remember anyone talking through it! I say DO IT!!!!!

We are going to attend our cocktail hour but we have a lot of sentimental people in my family so they would only care about shedding some tears because they are so moved by the show! That makes them happy, I know a little weird. So they would probably not care that it was not elegant but you are right it probably is anticlimactic and not the most elegant thing but it would be moving.

Betty- who made the slides there? I am also having a videographer there but I figured the screens would just be there for the beginning. Is that right?

That is so funny that you know Dave, how is he? A little late for me to be asking that now? Are the affairs nice?

I know about the crying thing, my family seems to thrive on that stuff!!!

I don't really know who made the slides (I worked there about 6 years ago) I remember the screen would come down, out of the ceiling above the band. The slide show would only be viewed BEFORE you entered and that was it, the screen would go back up and not come out again. There were pictures of each of you growing up, with family, friends etc, then the two of you together. This was before digital though so now things may be different, I don't know.

Ok, that is how I envisioned it too, I thought if you got the screens for some reason from your post that you can't have a videographer, my confusion I will call and ask who makes the slides, it would just be for our entrance and I can ask the band to play during it (for the money I am paying them

Fran - we're also debating whether or not to do the slideshow. I think we're leaning towards doing it, but haven't decided yet. I'm sure we just give the pics to David and they put together the slide show.

Are you doing the silhouette thing before you walk down the aisle? It might be a little too showy for me!

I made a face about the sillouhette but as it is getting closer I realize I am wanting to do all of the things that I made faces about. Although the one thing I am petrified about is walking down the aisle with EVERYONE watching me. I want them to just turn around and face the front

I saw David yesterday because we had off from work and I had to make an appt to see the Rabbi but I forgot to ask him, I will call him and find out.

It is getting close, I am about 7 weeks away!! I'll let you know what else you need for the Rabbie etc....

We are doing something similar as one of our favors. It will be a mini-CD-ROM though. FH will design and program it (he does we and interactive design for a living). It will show us the day we were born (born on the same day, same year!!!), us growing up with family and friends, us dating, and us planning the wedding. It will look like a photo album/story book and will be set to music. I think as part of the favors it will be unique and a nice way to recognize all our loved ones.

My girlfriend had it at her wedding at the sand castle 2 yrs ago, and I thought it was great. Everybody raved about it and it was great to see the B&G through the years. The Grooms mother had passed away and that was his touch to bring her into the wedding by adding pictures of her too. I loved it. Doing for my wedding too. Weddings are elengant and unique in their own way!
