Small Wedding - outdoor ceremony and (hopefully!) reception

Hi everyone! New here, just started my wedding planning two days ago and I'm so confused, thank god I found this site it has already been a lifesaver! So I figured instead of what I've been doing the past few days, reading others questions and posts, everyone is so helpful that I should just ask for help about what I'm specifically looking for.

Hoping (everything is 'hoping' at this point!) for weekend of May 21, 2001. Would prefer Saturday night, but having small wedding (prob about 60), so being a newbie just realizing way too small for most places on a Saturday night. So resigned myself to Friday (and hey, would love to save some $), and hope I can still find something where I meet the minimum.

My other ideals is I really want something on the beach, or at least water, for ceremony. And here I think is the real sticker, I would like outdoor reception with tent. If not someplace for indoor reception that's not too 'hall-y.' Anyone have the perfect place for me?!?! Price not really that much of an issue since small wedding.

Thanks ladies!

Congratulations on your engagement!

You should check out some of the Lessings properties ... the Pavillion at Sunken Meadow might be what you're looking for: click me

I don't know anything about their prices or amount of people you'd need though ....

Good luck

What about the RIverview or Snapper Inn? Both are located in Oakdale!

I know it's not near the water, but I am positive you can have an outdoor wedding with a tented reception at the Queens County Farm Museum. Also think you can have one at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, but I am less sure on that one.

Good luck with your planning!

Bear in mind that tent weddings get expensive bc you have to rent everything.

I went to a tent wedding years ago. It poured and was a nighrmare. The dance floor was slippery and everything was muddy so you sank down to your ankles walking to the bathroom. Nightmare!

I am having a small wedding, we are having 56 people total. The biggest issue I had was that all the places I like (outdoors, beach ect) I did not meet their minimum. Especially for a saturday night. But then I found the Miller Beach Surf Club. Our ceremony and cocktail part is outdoors and the reception in inside. But if the day is nice people can stay use the outdoors during the reception. It really does have a million dollar view.

There aren't many all outdoor venues really that I know of except for some of the wineries--but they are incredibly expensive and I think already booked for the next 2 years.

Someone suggested Snapper Inn which is a nice, not hallish type of venue and they'd accept your minimum for a Friday.

You might be interested in Bridgeview Yacht Club. They have a room with tented ceiling which is really nice looking.

Consider the Sans Souci of Sea Cliff. Some pictures in one of my albums.

I'm doing my wedding at West Sayville Country Club. 75 guarantee on Fri/Sun and super affordable. They are overlooking the water and adjacent to the Maritime Museum, so you can do pics there (for a $50 donation). It's beautiful and feels like you are at someone's home.

Yeah, I second Riverview. Food is great and the space is just big enough for a small-ish wedding. They have info on their website for pricing I think.

ETA: The Riverview I'm referring to is in Long Island City.

Try the Old Field Club. I'm not sure what their minimums are as far as guest are concerned but the ballroom is very rustic looking and beautiful and it is right on the water.

wow, thanks so much everyone!! A lot of places are already book for the weekend of May 20th or 21st, and I realized the previous Friday is the 13th. hmmm, doom my marriage to save $$, you know they'll give a discount for that day?!

anyway waiting to hear back from a bunch of places, but set up appointments this weekend at Miller Beach Surf Club (fingers crossed I like this place, 75 minimum for Saturday night!), Snapper Inn, and Sunset Harbour. Waiting to hear back from Bridgeview, Thatched Cottage, Riviera and Crescent Beach Club. Really hope I can pick a place this weekend (delusional??). Thanks again for all the advice, will let you know how it goes, and looking forward to being able to share advice once I've seen some places!!

thank you for the insight, really good points! you learn as you go but I agree, tent might not be worth the expense and risk!

congratulations on the engagement!!!
i would suggest the new smaller venue by Russo's on the Bay. you still have the Russo's standard. Its called Vetro's you can google them and they are a few blocks down fgrom Russo's the max you can fit there is 100 and they have much lower minimums...
