How the h e l l can the general manager tell me that my first deposit of 3400 dollars for my RH is lost if I want to cancell!!!!! OMG how unfair! thats like telling me unless u want to loose your money, you better have your event here. GOSH im livid right now! Then hes like first off you have to make an appointment.... just for that my butt is walking in whenever I feel like it!

Arent they supposed to see if they can book the date before they keep your money?? Im not sure how it works but I know its not easy to get your deposit back from an RH. Look at your contract and see what it says about that.

Oh no! before you get all bent ouf of shape, go back to the place and see how you feel. You might walk in and fall in love the place all over again! in which case, there is no point in canceling. Don't worry, calm down and take a deep breath. Figure out if you want to cancel first then check out your options.

I agree to that you should go back and check it out, you might be getting anxious because you are hearing so many things on LIW about other places and 2nd guessing yourself but might still love VIP.
However, i do have to say that Im sure all this going on is not helping your anxiety about your choice..if anything its probally making you 2nd guess more.
Say you do decide to cancel and really cant get back your money after reading everything over and speaking with them, remember what you have here...you can post that if someone is considering using VIP, maybe they can give you the money back and use your deposit, just change the date obviously. I would think VIP could at the very least agreet to that to just apply your deposit to another bride that you choose. If worse comes to worse, you can offer, for them to just give you a portion back and they can use the WHOLE deposit for VIP.

When I booked with them they told me up front no refunds. It's a question I asked before I paid the deposit. Every place I looked at said the same thing. I think you need to take a trip over there and clear your mind. VIP is a great choice...they might not have had everything you wanted (ex the chair covers) but if you knew that when you booked I don't understand why there are issues now? I met with Tom the last time I went and he's great!

i would read the contract......its a deposit, sorry to be harsh, but i dont blame them if they dont give it back. anytime you leave a deposit, not just with weddings, you never get your money back. plain and simple.
hopefully that 'law' where you get your money back if they book it works out for you.

I agree that I don't blame them either. They're probably getting a call a week to cancel with the economy and people being scared and it must be frustrating to run a business like that. I do think they should be more professional about it though or they run the risk of the negative word of mouth.
