SO, do YOU think this is a good deal for photography?

Original post by prncssrachel

I will have to go with NO....but here's the package we were offered from a very loved photographer on this site and I think it's appauling. Please give me your opinion!

1 photographer
1 60 image digital album for us
2 16 image albums for our parents
1 11*11 picture
1 18 by something picture
100 thank you's
All proofs in a album

for 5,000 dollars!
I think this is a rip off, in my opinion. What do you girls think?

I don' tthink its that high. Becuse ai was told digital albums add on at least $1000.
So that takes to to $4000. And similar packages I've seen are around $3500-$3800.
You could save money with a smaller parents album or smaller prints, if the place lets you change teh packaage alittle. they might offer a smaller package clsoer to 2500 ( befor ethe digital album), but with only 50 thank yous, but they might let you increase that number without upgrading to a whole different pacakge.
It depends on the place though.

I thought I wanted the digital album, but I saw a regular album that I really liked, and realized the digital wasn't worth the $1000 to me. I think I'd rather spend the $ on a second photographer, but its really personal preference.

I still wanna know what the ruckuss about digi albums is.Sorry I am not good at the technological stuff. Please explain what it is? Cause it seems like they just lay your print over another image(kinda sorta)? And what is a coffe table book thingie?

How much would it be to have an album done independently?

The digital album looks kinda like a yearbook. The pictures are printed on the page, instead of glued on and done in a collage format, with quotes from the readings & stuff. It has lots of differnt names. I think it is the same as a coffee table book.

I'm not sure how much albums cost independatly. I guess it varies depending on type & size.

coffoe table book/ soho book/ ditigal album are all one in the same... just a different name

i think these books (this is my reason) captures alot more of your day and presents it..
anybody can show a picture a regular way...lets say this is a way of jazzing it up...

example..you saw my engagement pics..you saw how 1 pic was in the background and 3 pics were on top of it.... each picture by it self doesn't tell much.. but you put them on 1 page as one big picture, you can see a story

Also...these books incorpates both pages into 1 big page.. go check 1 out in person if you get a chance.. nothing against duets book but go check out patkens book . i think it presented 10x better

O thanks tourist and MCDO15.
That is what I saw at DUET. O ok, man I am a so ignorant about this stuff. Duet referred to it more like a magazine style /flush mounted book. O ok, I am up to speed now. Thanks again.

ps - now having ALL the facts ...............defintely TOO much money.

I am paying just under that(4500) for a very similar package but I have two photographers and an assistant. The price on the package I would not find bothersome, but I am a fan of two photographers(one traditional and one photojournalistic).

ETA: My parent albums have 24 pics in each of them.

Re: SO, do YOU think this is a good deal for photography?

I know the digital album adds alot more money to the package. I am not getting this because I don't feel it is worth 2500 or so (but it is definitely gorgeous if you can afford that much on an album). I am paying a lot for photography, but I love my photographer's work. To me it far surpasses much work that I have seen . . . That is why I am willing to pay the money I am. You have to find the balance that you want . . . I kind of feel like a photographer is like finding the 'dress.' You will fall in love with the work that you see. Then all you have to do is figure out if it's worth $$ If not, keep shopping around. Can you maybe post the places you have been to already and maybe say what you liked/didn't like, so that maybe more recommendations can be made to you . . .? Good Luck, Rachel!

I was trying to avoid the drama also, which is why I said 'don't start', till you said that I SAID something that I absolutely did NOT say, and HORRIFICALLY INSULTING. It has nothing to do with 'people having money'....I would still like to know what you meant by that actually. So people should want feel like they are being ripped off?

ps - bridget I think you just found found me a place to make a separate album using different pics.....
