Original post by prncssrachel

I will have to go with NO....but here's the package we were offered from a very loved photographer on this site and I think it's appauling. Please give me your opinion!

1 60 image digital album for us
2 16 image albums for our parents
1 11*11 picture
1 18 by something picture
100 thank you's
All proofs in a album

I think this is a rip off, in my opinion. What do you girls think?

It is a composit of multiple pictures on one page, with backgrounds. Printed as a library flush album. I also know for a fact that you can have a say in your album and It dose not have to cost you an arm and a leg. I have a list of companies that do it cheaper, and one is right here on Long Island, in Deer Park. I am a graphic designer and I know that the time to put the album together is time consuming, because I have done similiar things myself. But I also know it dose not cost them material wise that much at all because it is the same printing teqnique as the library bound album. And most photographers, even thought they are telling you they do it all, are using templates and are laying out the book and then letting you give the input.

I was told by Duet that they design it all right there in their shop and that we can sit with them and help them lay it out the way we would like to see it. MCD015, have you heard this is untrue?

i was told from duet it it was sent out of house back in Nov (i could be off in the month)

They had just received the book from the company that does it. Maybe since people like it, they invested in it and have the power to do it now in house... but orginally, i was told out of house. They didn't do there book. They told me, they sent there proofs to people i think in Austrilla.

I hope that helps with my experience

But if you get to sit right there and do it (same as what i can do) go for it.

btw: i have nothing against Duet.. they were my second choice in photographer

Also whoever tells you they send there book to Australia is full of it, most of these things are done right here in New York.

Interesting. I saw them back in like Sept or Oct and was told they did it in house and we could sit at the tables with them and help them design it. I wonder why they told us two different things. I will have to give them a call.

Thanks for your info and help.

ok took a look it is nice, but it looks like what I saw at DUET the last time I was there to bump up my package. The only thing that makes a difference is the layout???????Or I am being technically challenged?

eta - I definitely think there was some miscommunication about the Australia, no way would I book a photographer that told me he is sending my pics to AUSTRALIA...

MCD05 - that's what I was thinking

It's a lot of money, but I don't think it's unreasonable. A lot of time is spent creating a digital album and that is why the price is so high.

Agreed. Except that I still think it's on the high side for *one* photographer.

I agree too - it is on the high side. I guess that's where experience and reputation come in, we pay for that too.

you guys missed the key word 'ditigal album'

Actually, I saw the digital album, but I also saw 'one photographer' and '2 16 image albums for our parents'. I also didn't see much else to the package. I know that digi albums are pricey, I just don't think there's much to the package.

As for the duet debate, is it possible that they design in house but send the albums out for production?

we were given one photogpharer.. the company photogpahers that they are are able to capture both and still have a high proof count unless it was a larger wedding. i heard both sides or stories of how 1 person is good but you should always have 2 and vice versa. We were advised not to get a second but we ask for another cause we literally wanted everything captured. Example...my sister wedding...they had 800 proofs. i forget the ratio but it had to be almost the same. Either way, you will be in good hands

That IS what they do. Which is why if the layout is the only difference, you pick your ayout no matter what photographer, and the layout as well. That is defintely TOO much money.

SomedayBride, I think you answered the question. That makes sense and answer why I was confused. Thank you.

well..id mention before if you take the ditigal out and replace with traditional... the cost is about 3000-3500...

i thought that was fair

i took my ditigal package i got (waste of time) to another company to make sure i was getting a fair deal and they were chargeing 2500 more....

i couldn't believe it

I still wanna know what the ruckuss about digi albums is.Sorry I am not good at the technological stuff. Please explain what it is? Cause it seems like they just lay your print over another image(kinda sorta)? And what is a coffe table book thingie?

How much would it be to have an album done independently?
