So get this...........

I asked for my vacation time for the wedding and honeymoon in MAY! And I was approved immediately. We earn vacation hours on a pay period basis. So about 3 hours accrues each pay period. So I knew I would never have 60 hours by the time the wedding rolls around. I asked can I please work overtime and bank hours up until the wedding so I am not in the whole when I return. I was told 'Don't worry about it'

So fast forward to today and the managing partner sends me a memo: 'We need to seriously sit down and have a discussion regarding your time off in February.' So I say Ok when do you want to discuss this. 'Sometime next week, I will let you know.'

Ok so I go to the partner who approved my vacation time, the partner we are supposed to clear all personal and vacation time with. So I say, almost fighting back tears 'You approved this and we have already paid for the honeymoon. If this was going to be a problem I should have been told when I asked for approval and BEFORE you approved me.'

So now it looks like up until the wedding I will be coming in early everyday and working through my lunch everyday. I really think this is the last straw for me. This is unprofessional and disrespectful. The purpose of asking 8 months in advance for vacation time was so that I could plan accordingly. I hate my job and I hate this place

I know but they don't care and if I can't make up all the time ahead of time I am sure they will dock my check. But I guess I need to wait to see what he says when we sit down and have this discussion

I feel so bad....I take it you work in a law firm....me too - I don't understand why the partners never seem to communicate with each other!! It's so frustrating

that is so unfair and i can relate with being told one thing and then having people take it away...I hate my office too. i am sorry..when you speak to that person make sure you tell them that this was all approved and see what happens...

Also - do you get paid overtime for all the hours you accrue?

Thinking about it, it might not be so bad if you have to work OT.

1 - you get paid for the hours
2 - you accrue the vacation time you need
3 - the money you get paid for overtime can offset any amount they dock your pay in february

And if you don't get paid OT, then this does majorly suck.

Yeah luckily all our vacation approvals are done in writing and attached to our personal files so I will be sure to print those out and bring them with me to the meeting. I mean I am fine with banking hours that is why I suggested it but I would have liked to have started doing that in May when I asked instead of now when I have less than two months till my wedding day! This is supposed to be the happiest time of my life and this office just does whatever it can to put a damper on things

So messed up! I am sure I'm going to hear it too. Do you think it has something to do with the economy? Seems like people are all getting snippy about time and stuff these days. GRRRRRRRR!!!!!

Well that does suck. Any way you can get the 2 partners in the same room to work out an arrangement?

Try and stay calm - you don't want the water works (although I usually have a hard time keeping the water works under control myself). Tell them you believed you did the correct thing in May by approaching one manager and the month before your wedding is hardly the time for you to be working overtime. Tell them you will be more than happy to make up any hours when possible - either before or after the honeymoon if they agree to let you take the full vacation with pay.

Maybe this will all work out.

I find that more and more companies want robots and not humans to work for them. Also, their work to life ratio is sooooo off from what it once was years ago! Redicuouls.
