So - How do I call in sick tomorrow?

OK - this is the new job that I started last week!!
I have a 2nd interview with a school district smack in the middle of the day so I have no choice but to call in sick!
Here's the problem - I would normally call in sick really early - as a lot of us probably do - so we can get a voice mail and not have to speak to someone.
However - I'm supposed to work 11:30 to 7:30 tomorrow - so won't it look weird that I'm calling in sick at like 7:30 AM - four hours before i have to be at work?

How should I play this?

If i was really sick i would call in as early as possible so i could rest and sleep for the rest of the day so
No it doesn't seem weird to me

It is weird to you bcause you know why youare really calling in!

Just call them and say 'I'm sorry I couldn't wait for someone to be in the office, but I've been up sick all night I need to try and get some sleep'.

I wouldn't leave this on the message - it will make them think of how early you are calling because you are bringing it up -- it makes you seem guilty! If they were to ask you about it, then you say this but you should play it off like you would any other time.

I've called in sick the night before because I knew I wasn't going to be feeling well enough the next day and I wanted to at least TRY and sleep through night without having to worry about waking up at a certain time make the call.

I would leave the message early...but make sure you say that you are going to try to get a dr appt....so if they call and you are not home you won't get caught

Then they might ask for a Dr.s note.

The only reason I don't want to say I had any type of Dr's appt is then they could always ask for a note afterwards.

I guess if they called I could always say I was sleeping.

I see your point about the note....but how would you know that they needed one since they left you a message while you were at the dr...its too late to get one after the fact...and Im sure you planb on screening your calls.

They could always ask for a note after the fact - I've NEVER had anyone do that - but since it's a new job - you never know - and the boss is kind of weird...

do youo know anyone who works in a dr office who can fax over a note stating that you had an appt at such a time...no need to say what you were there for...thats private

My best friend's dad is my dentist and originally, that popped into my mind but I would never put someone in that position.
I'm not really worried about them calling - if they do - I'll just say I must have been sleeping. I should be in and out during the day anyway.
My concerns were/are about making that initial phone call.

I would do that early then...maybe even in the middle of the night,...if someone called in at 5:20 in the morning I would think that what ever they were sick from is keeping them up all night.

I get nervous too when calling in. I call ASAP. We have to talk to someone. As soon as someone is there, I call.
Im sure you will be fine. The stomach virus always comes out of no where, so, if they do call, you were sleeping!

Call in Early and if a note is there policy act like you didn't know that and say sorry that you don't have one. Good Luck
