So sorry, my honeymoon vents are getting a bit redundent...
I personally don't think that you have to go on some tropical wonderful honeymoon. FH does.
FMIL is giving us $1000 toward the HM and I want to stay w/i those means, just go somewhere close, but FH doesn't want to do that. We're both in school right now, though I'll (hopefully) be working in the fall, but come on, we won't exactly be living the high life on a teacher's salary.
FH wants to use some of the money we get from the wedding to help pay for the remainder of the HM, but I would rather keep it until we both have jobs for our emergency money in case something happens (car accident, injury, etc.)
I don't know... but the idea of having to put another $2000 toward the honeymoon just doesn't make sense when, between the two of us, we're nearly $10,000 in debt from school loans, credit cards etc.
So I don't know what to do, he, for whatever reason, thinks having this honeymoon is so important, and while i want to get away, I just feel that we should wait until we both have jobs to do the big one, and just do something small for now.
So what do you think, is the big honeymoon all that important, or shoud we wait until our finances are more in order?

Re: So how important is the honeymoon?
Good Luck Deb!
I agree, I think the HM is important b/c it gives you time to relax and extend the wedding a little longer. It doesn't have to be exotic, but take the time and go away and enjoy!

Re: So how important is the honeymoon?
I think the honeymoon is important... it should be a time to really relax and enjoy every minute with your new husband. I don't think it matters where you go or what you do, as long as you're together and having fun. The whole idea that your honeymoon should be a lavish and exotic trip is just propaganda fed to us by the tourism industry.

Oh! Thank you thank you thank you!
I actually e-mailed haley, and got a response back from someone else... We talked to an agent here in VA, but didn't know about these places. I think we'll try to make another appointment with her sometime this week and see if we can get a better deal on a few of these...
I tried El Dorado and got a quote for less than 2000 flying out of LGA (which I'd rather do than JFK).
And one to a Couples in Jamaica flying out of Islip for around 2,200 - which is perfect for my price range.
Thank you so much for reccomending discount all inclusive - it's been great!
You're welcome...I know discount all inclusive is addictive! OK, Hayley owns beachbum...so if you get a response from Robert (Bob) that's her husband and Lisa works for them. Seriously, she's great and WILL beat discount-all-inclusive prices. Give her a call if you feel iffy about doing it online and tell her I sent you, she will work with your budget. Also check out www.tripadvisor.com once you narrow it down for reviews of hotels, that way you don't end up in a place you would hate.
I'm here to help! Good luck!

Did u get any sleep yet?
haha, nope. I think I just slept so much yesterday (thanks to benedryl in my inability to function when taking medication) that I didn't need to sleep last night...
I'm not even feeling tired, which is weird. I'm sure I'll pass out early tonight though.

I know exactly what you mean! I have been having the HARDEST time with my invitations...something so simple, yet it is stumping me! I think my problem is spending money on these things that are just to let people know we're getting married - but they also set the mood and tone, so I have to be careful. UGH!
I had Hayley price out about 12 HM's for me...and then I played around with discount all inclusive EVERY night for 2 weeks...I looked into: Jamaica Aruba Bahamas Bermuda Turks & Caicos St. Lucia Antigua Puerto Rico Italy Hawaii before deciding on Mexico...
So I know how you feel! What helped me was make a list of my 'musts' and what my top budget was...then I narrowed down the places that fit the bill, Hayley was great too because she would tell me 'I don't think you would like taht' or 'that doesn't seem to be the direction you're going for'...and she was right. In the end, go somewhere where you won't feel bad spending X amount of dollars, but you'll know you'll have fun, relax and have no worries. Like I said before, I'm here - let me know if you need help!
I also found this site while doing my research...www.jmtravel.com. They seem to have really low prices to Mexico, and Hayley will beat their price, so it's worth a quote.
Good luck!

Oh, no, I'm not going away for 2 weeks (I WISH!) I checked the prices every night for 2 weeks.
We're going for 8nights/9 days.

Re: So how important is the honeymoon?
I dont see the big deal of a honeymoon...I could do a weekend in the city or the hamptons and be happy. I'm not much of a traveler (or a sun worshipper). As is me and FH are postponing our 'honeymoon' for like 6 months due to our jobs, and im kinda happy we did.atleast then i wont be all stressed out from our wedding!

Re: So how important is the honeymoon?
Deb, i am having a hard time with the HM too. I have recieved many wonderful FM's with reviews and pics, and still can't seem to make up my mind.
That being said, I don't think it matters much where you go as long as you are with FH. We took a mini-vacation to Miami this past summer, and to make sure we didn't go into debt for it, we ended up eating baloney sandwiches two meals a day. I don't regret a single minute we spent there, baloney or not! I think it would be a good idea for you guys to have an HM, especially since your lives will be so hectic right after the wedding. You'll look back on it and appreciate that you enjoyed eachother.

Re: So how important is the honeymoon?
after the all the time and stress you put into the wedding, the honeymoon is a chance for the two of you to go away and relax....definitely look at cruises or resorts that are all inclusive..and for airfare, look for places that airlines like Jet Blue fly too. (FYI, Jet Blue flies to the Dominican Republic so if you book enough in advance you should get good price)

actually, you know what's sad... so far, the honeymoon has proved the most stressful thing to plan
