So let's say you visited 3 DJs. Packages will include the same exact thing: 1 DJ, 1 MC, 5 hours service (CH and Reception), and basic lighting. The only thing that differs is one offers piano during CH, the others softly played music. Pricing is within a 300 dollar range of each other. 2 are 'popular' companies that are known to be energetic. 1 is not as well known, and skews generally older, in terms of MC and song selection.
But BUT, your guest list is 80% middle aged and elderly.
What do you do? Pick one of the more expensive, energetic DJs so your party doesn't drag and be selfish, or pick the least expensive DJ and cater to the tastes/wants of your guest list but then live with the fear that your party may be lacking/boring.
Um, hypothetically speaking of course.

Re: So hypothetically speaking...
I'd get the more expensive. The way I see, it, spending all this money on a wedding, what is $300 more for entertainment? That and photography are the most important. If it was for something else like limos or flowers I'd say no.

Re: So hypothetically speaking...
I would totally go with the package that will keep your wedding energetic... there are 2 things that people remember the most at weddings- the music and the food!! I was at a wedding recently and the wedding MUSIC was sooooooooooo bad.... even I compained about it days after lol Everything else was great, but the music put a damper on the wedding

I would get the more expensive one. imo music is a major thing for me so I would go with the more popular one to feel safe.

choose what will make YOU excited, don't settle for something that won't make you happy and bored, but this is a hypothetical comment

Re: So hypothetically speaking...
Well the middle-agers might want to bust some moves out on the dance floor! My parents' friends were clogging up the floor at my sister's wedding! Maybe if you liven up the music, they'll be more likely to have a good time. I definitely wouldn't cater to the guests. I'd ask the DJ to keep the music kind of middle ground but not all muzak. I like the piano though - that's a nice touch. But only if that comes with the energetic DJ.

Be selfish and get the more expensive fun one! All the way! Don't even need to think about it. Your money.. your wedding.. GO FOR IT GIRL!

I would pick the more energetic one. Even if your guest list is older, they can play stuff that will appease everyone. Trust me, the older people will feed off of the younger people's energy and have a great time!

Thanks girls...I think FH and I have narrowed our choices down to two, and we're going to sit on it for a week or so. Stay tuned

Re: So hypothetically speaking...
i would go w/ the more $$$ one. The food and the DJ/band are the two biggest things ppl rave about after weddings. Our DJ is the one thing we splurged on for our wedding, we don't want our guests to be bored. lol

Re: So hypothetically speaking...
When I think of my wedding I am thinking that the most important thing to me and FH is the ceremony...where we will be married in our childhood church...the reception is for the guests...not us. in any bridal mag you read it will tell you that having a great reception means making yuor guests happy! I would go with the choice that is bests for your guests as technically you are throwing this party for them....for them to celebrate you...know what i mean?

Re: So hypothetically speaking...
To me, music and entertainment is really what is going to make your reception. I would get reviews from people that have used these DJ's and see which one I liked more (and which one is more your style). your DJ is really the one that is going to determine what type of reception you have: everyone is up and dancing or people just mingling around. As far as money the most expensive one doesnt necessarily have to be the best one BUT if that is the one you like then go for it. In the grand scheme of things when you think how much you have spent on your wedding $300 isnt going to make or break your budget. I had live entertainment during my CH and my guests loved it.
