So I go into Estelles one day with my Mom..........

...... to look for MOB dresses. As my Moms walking into the dressing room to try some things on we pass by this young woman, her Mom, and an assistant. The assistant is going on and on about how gorgeous and perfect this wedding gown looks on the girl.

This is a pic of the GOWN she had on....

So as Im passing, i say to the woman 'Congratulations, when are getting married??'
Shes turns to me and said 'Im not, its my SWEET SIXTEEN dress'

Then her Moms says 'isnt it beautiful, Im trying to convince her this is the one'

Am I the only one who thinks its a little odd that this woman has her 16 year old daughter trying on full fledge wedding gowns for her Sweet 16???!!!

Totally agree with you... the sweet 16s are getting more and more ridiculous!

seriously! I had a friend who had a sweet 16 that was basically a wedding....it was at Majestic Gardens with over 200 ppl I think, and she had a halter style white ball-gown (basically a wedding dress!)....her parents told her she could either have a big sweet 16 or a big wedding...and she chose sweet 16! It was fun as her friend, but crazy!!

I know, I cant believe how crazy people can get! I swear I think a part of it is the mothers egging the girls on b/c they want to see their baby girl like it was her wedding day...sick. Shes Sixteen, let her be a teen....theres so many dresses and gowns out there that are beautiful that DONT look like wedding dresses (or in this girls case...IS a wedding dress!)

*** people have money just to pee away? I had a sweet sixteen in my backyard with my family this isn't a time for a damn mini wedding. I can't understand how over indulged we as a society are when it comes to 'parties'. I even look at myself and say how silly I am to spend so much on my wedding and i am under 16K for the entire wedding.

I realize some nationalities due over do it when it comes to parties for those who are 'coming into age' but I feel in the state this country is going in its really time to step back and realize we are not that well off anymore. We have the highest amount of foreclosures on homes, we have very little growth in our economy, savings are in a all time slump, more people are living paycheck to paycheck - where does this all sound like it is going? A depression! And yes I realize I am venting but its like I am so annoyed how money means so little to people today. I just heard from my friend she is in 30k worth in dept from cc, then she has 100k in student loans and she is planning a HUGE wedding. WHY?????????

Actually I remember reading one of the 'real bride' stories on the maggie sottero website and one girl bought a wedding dress in a champagne color for her prom. I thought that was pretty weird too.

it's getting really out of hand, sweet sixteens and bat mitzvahs are becoming mini weddings without the groom it's like they are throwing practice weddings! what's the point?!?!?!

i think what's even worse is that her mom is encouraging her to wear a wedding dress to her sweet 16

it's your sweet 16, yes you want to feel all grown up, but a wedding gown is just so not appropriate, it's for a woman, not a girl. what is wrong w/ people today

LOL some sweet 16's are like weddings. I've seen that show on mtv so many times and some of them im like ok so what will they do for their wedding...but when it comes to those situations i blame it on the parents, of course the kids are gonna act like that when the parents will do whatever the kid wants...hey if a kid is gonna ask for a $100,000 car or more and they know they're gonna get it without a problem then yeah theyre gonna ask for it.

I didnt even have a sweet 16, my mom keep asking me if i wanted to and she couldn't understand why i didnt...at that time i dressed only in baggy clothes and never wore skirts or dresses so to me it was like no thank you.
