...... to look for MOB dresses. As my Moms walking into the dressing room to try some things on we pass by this young woman, her Mom, and an assistant. The assistant is going on and on about how gorgeous and perfect this wedding gown looks on the girl.

This is a pic of the GOWN she had on....

So as Im passing, i say to the woman 'Congratulations, when are getting married??'
Shes turns to me and said 'Im not, its my SWEET SIXTEEN dress'

Then her Moms says 'isnt it beautiful, Im trying to convince her this is the one'

Am I the only one who thinks its a little odd that this woman has her 16 year old daughter trying on full fledge wedding gowns for her Sweet 16???!!!

omg that is out of control, i think its really sad too, i mean what in the world is this girl going to do for her wedding if this is her sweet 16???

my sweet 16 dress cost $60 and it was hot lol My mother was very happy with that price. When my friend spent $500 on hers I couldnt believe it. And that was 6 yrs ago, I know girls spend a ton more now.

I agree that is totally ridiculous. Only brides should wear a wedding gown, not a 16 year old child. Sounds like a pagent mom to me!!

Well i know in my hispanic culture its customary for a girl at 15 to have a 'sweet 15' or Quinceanera' and they wear a white wedding like gown. it's more looked at as a pure girl coming into womanhood than just a birthday celebration.

WOW!!!! That is a bridal dress and should NOT be worn for a sweet 16!!! It is a gorgeous dress though! I LOVE the red!!!

Wow. That is ridiculous. My mom would have slapped me against the head if I tried to wear a wedding gown on my sweet sixteen. ****, I didnt even have a sweet sixteen!

IMO it's a beautiful gown but NOT for a sweet 16- I might be only 31 years old but I get to see what many teens choose as sweet 16 outfits (I work with teens and children at a Queens recreation center) and I'm flabbergasted at what they choose.
I know I probably sound old fashioned but still, idk how she can choose that (obviously a wedding gown) as a sweet 16 dress.

I went to a Sweet 16 where the girl wore a wedding gown...she looked ridiculous! I had a sweet 16, but it was nothing like a wedding!

ok that really bothers me.

if she wears an effing wedding dress for her sweet sixteen, when she finally gets married she'll have already worn a wedding dress...i feel like that would take away from the wedding.

i think these big sweet sixteens are ridiculous.

wow that's crazy. Actually, thinking back to some of the bar/bat mitzvah's I attended as a kid (I grew up in a jewish neighborhood...everyone had one..except me hahaha), I'll bet that some of those probably cost more than my wedding.

i used to work at russos....

do u kno how many sweet 16s were in the biggest room ALL night with EVERYTHING, inus the coctail hour...

the dresses the shows.. the music, the effects... the $$$$$$

in the 2 months i worked there... i possibly saw AS many 16's as i did 15's = weddings...

even split possibly... tons of $$

For my Sweet 16 I actually wore a long white Jessica McClintock backless gown,it was sheath style. My b-day is in Feb so it was a Winter Wonderland theme, mostly white w/ hints of lavender & lilac.

That's the same style gown I wanted for my wedding. My mom encouraged me to go with the gown that I am wearing.

Parties are def. becoming more elabroate, even though at mine people said it was like a wedding
