So I just realized (silly me)

So I just realized (silly me)

I just received my renewed passport today (it was set to expire in 10 days) and its kinda annoying because in 9 months I'm going to have to do this AGAIN when I change my name! Anyone else going to keep their passport in their maiden name until it expires? Mine won't expire for another 5 years which kind of seems silly that I will always have to book tickets in my maiden name....oh well!

I'm actually getting stressed about all the documents that will need to be changed-like SS, driver's license, passport. Sheesh!

oh btw...if you change your license you'll have to change your passport. the name must match or you won't be leaving the country!

Mine expires in 2011. So I'll renew it then. As long as it's good for my HM that's all I care about.

And it's a good thing you did anyway.......because you'll need it in your maiden name for your HM.

You can't keep your maiden name on your passport unless you keep your maiden name on your ID.

Mine expires next year, so I'm just going to get my name changed on it, hopefully before our real honeymoon in September.

They don't usually check both. No one would ever know.

yeah they do lol. When you go through security, at check in, and sometimes at the gate they ask for ID and your ticket. Esp. if your going international. I personally wouldn't take the chance and get screwed.

I've never had them check both. In fact, they hardly ever spared a glance at my passport. I guess I look innocent. She could always carry her marriage license on her, too.

I'm Canadian and my dad is an immigration lawyer so he takes care of it for me....I'm not sure about how it works here but in canada they don't send you a reminder, its your responsibility to remember and get it renewed

WAIT! Huge issue, does anyone think this isn't going to work?
Get married in July, change name on license
Fly domestically September with married name
Fly internationally using passport with Maiden name in November. (Have to get new passport before this flight since mine expires but was going to get it with maiden name since thats what tickets are made out to.)

I think I'd be okay going through security for international travel b/c they only need to see passport, not license too....right?

To help you out Meredith, I heard that you can change your name and get a new passport within 12 months of renewing for free. So you got this new one and until next Jan, can get a 'revised' one for free. I'm hoping that is the case for me too...
