i don't mind kids at my reception.. as long as they are related to me or fh....family's kids u know.. so i'm thinking of doing two sets of reception cards.. one that will say a family friendly reception wikll follow and one that will say an adult recpetion will follow...is this wrong?
i ust dont' want my coworkers bringing their kids.. but i want my cousins kids there.. they're family..
or should i just say _________ seats have been reserved for you.. and put the number of people i expect from each household.. (meaning for my cousin put enough for her kids, for my coworker put just enough for her and her hubby?)

I think you would be safer going with the '____ seats have been reserved for'.

I agree...you know people talk and may find out that you were being selective w/ who got what response card. Totally feel you though for not wanting a whole bunch of random kids.

Re: so im thinking..
or you can order reception cards stating 'an adult reception is to follow' and only place it in the invitations of guests not invited with children

I think it's ok, it's you're wedding, you can do whatever you want. IMO, you don't need to explain yourself to anyone. A lot of them probably don't even expect their kids to be invited.

Re: so im thinking..
i think the people who have kids and may have wanted to be them might be offended when they show up and there are kids there. I think people need to just understand that when something is only addressed to Mr. & Mrs...that is all that is invited. Not Mr. & Mrs. and their 13 children lol.....sorry i can't be much of a help. I am just addressing the invites to the people who are invited. The people who are invited with children will have & family.

Re: so im thinking..
i think that if the invitation says Mr. and Mrs. John Doe and family then they know their kids are included and if 'and family' is not on invitation; they are not invited
we're only inviting relatives' kids since they are all our nieces and nephews

i like this idea too 04/05.. as for folks being insulted i dont know how much i care.. ... mr & mrs and faimly.. nice idea..
snowflake, i wish i could assume that folsk will read it as mr & mrs means just u and hubby.. but i cna't take that chance..
i like the idea of and family, for those whom i want to bring kids to be accentuated by __________seats have been reserved for you..

Re: so im thinking..
why can't people just read the invite and not make us brides crazy with worry that they will show up with their brood of kids????I love kids and i am inviting my first cousins and our neices and nephews with children...otherwise no other kids.....just the ones I know and see and who know me..... I have been to weddings where people just brought there kids becaseu they assumed since the bride and groom had a child that it would be ok....the bride and groom only wanted there own child as it was a special moment for their 'family' and was dissapointed to see another cute kid on the dance floor people were going ga ga for......ugh
my first bride vent.....sorry....had to get the first one over with hahaha

I was thinking about this but I think a lot of people will use the opportunity on the response cards to indicate that the amount of people they plan on taking, no matter who is named on the address. I have heard horror stories from the response cards on these chat boards!

Re: so im thinking..
One of the great things about about doing your own invites is that you can print 2 versions of the response card.
This is what I plan to do b/c I have a similar situation. Although they probalby wont make it up for the wedding, I dont want to sent my uncle in GA a 'no kids' invite b/c he will obviously bring my little cousin and tht is fine.
So, a select few problem guets will get special invitatins with 'adult reception to follow' and '____ seats have been reserved in your honor'.
It will be a bit more organizing to get certain versions to certain people, but I will deal with it.
Also, are you doing inner envelopes, or just outer w/ the pocketfolds?

i'm thinking bout just doing the outside. no inner.. i plan on matting the pocketfold so i'ts going to gain some weight there.. the extra envelope will prob add to the postage..

I agree and then if anyone asks about kids tell them you are only having the children of the family

Re: so im thinking..
I don't have kids... but I think if I did have kids, and I got an invite that said 'Adult Reception' and then showed up and there was a gaggle of children... I'd either be confused or offended depending on who well I knew the couple who invited me.
We are only having the children in our bridal party, and FH's step brother's kids because they are coming from Germany and they are technically nieces and nephews which is all the kids in our bridal party. So that is where we drew the line.... OUR Nieces and Nephews only.
If it won't be a lot of kids, i think you can do the adult reception thing... but if it will be more than 10 kids (which is usually a table or more) I would probably do the '__# of seats have been reserved for you' for people you dont want to bring kids. and 'AND FAMILY' for those you do want to bring them.
that just got long, sorry if it's confusing.

Re: so im thinking..
maybe i'm wrong but I thought of an idea that may help me avoid some of this kind of issue.
If from the beginning when the STDs are sent out and it directs them to your wedding website (if you do one) then you can put in that 'welcome' session part that it's a small wedding, adult reception, etc. whatever. That way people can mentally prepare themselves for not bringing a tribe to the wedding. So sad the RSVP card wording a lot of times sees to not be enough!

Re: so im thinking..
i wouldnt do that - because people are going to wonder when they show up to your wedding and there are children there - might make for some intersting 'table discussion'
