so much pain

For the past couple of weeks, I have been having severe jaw pain... in the back of my jaws... in April I had to get both my bottom wisdom teeth removed, they were growing sideways... When my dentist went to take an xray the other day, my upper two wisdom teeth are also growing in sidewaysssss - ughhhh whyyyy me? So now on Saturday, I have to get them removed, and I am deathly afraid of getting anesthesia... stupid oral surgeon wont remove them both at once ... I have been taking 800 mg of ibuprofin and it works for an hr and pain persists... do you ladies know anything that works, besides ibuprofin for the time being???. my head hurts so much from this and I am laying in bed .. the pain was tortious today...thanks so much ladies

Eek! You need some prescription strength pain killers. Vicodin? Although I hate that stuff. Makes me super dizzy.

Try some anbesol to numb your gums and ice packs on your jaw to help with the swelling. It helped me before I had my wisdom teeth taken out

Awwww what about a topical ointment like anbesol or orajel? That should help relieve the pain along with the ibuprofen..if not maybe you can call your dentist and ask for a prescription pain medication to hold you over until Saturday?

if my teeth are growing in sideways and rubbing against my back teeth and growing from inside my gums, will anbesol work?? Isnt that for on top of gums, and not inside?

I think they are the same so either one is good, you will have to apply it often! Def can't take vicodin at work lol or driving.. but it will help you at night so at least you can get some sleep. Or see if you can get tylenol with codeine that's not as strong (but still shouldnt take it at work or when you drive lol)

Anbesol or Orajel will work equally...I also had 2 at a time, why won't your surgeon do more than one? hmm.

Re: so much pain

bc my they are really impacted and close to the nerve and the oral surgeon said that if he does both of them at once, then it can cause nerve damage and take longer to heal bc its so close to the nerves....this is bs I swear!! :(

no it's true with the impacted teeth. it's not a clean yank as with a normal one. they have to cut the gum, sometimes break the tooth, etc, etc with the impacted.

i have one now myself that's grown out and it's not the best feeling. i definitely used ice packs on my cheek and ambesol when it was 1st coming in.

good luck and feel better!

I remember when I had to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed so I know what you are going through! I'm sorry you have to deal with it but look at it this way...would you rather have it done now, or right before the wedding!

GOOD LUCK!!!

I had a lot of dental work done, surgeries and all and my dentist gave me antibiotics and aleve 600 mg. He also prescribed Vicodin which I refused to take but then ended up taking it once and felt sooooo dizzy. I would ask your dentist for something stronger, I'm sure he doesn't want you to be in pain. It's better to ask him though than by self-medicating. He'll know what works. Good luck and feel better sweetie. Tooth pain is not fun.

Re: so much pain

so sorry you are in so much pain. call your oral surgeon & ask for a prescription for Vicodin.

i had two pulled in September. talk about a shock. i was suppose to only have one pulled & he said, well this other one needs to be pulled too. while i was sitting in the chair. so i just had him pull it.

as for the anesthesia, i was a nervous wreck. i didn't sleep the entire week leading up to the surgery & i cried every night. i was petrified. the day of the appointment, when i found out he was pulling two, i said i want the anesthesia. the best choice i ever made. the entire procedure was about 20 minutes. the last thing i remember was speaking with the surgeon about the wedding. (he also pulled FHs 4 wisdom teeth so we know him) the next thing i knew FH was helping me out of the office. it was wonderful.

& Vicodin was a miracle from God. the only pain i had was the stupid stitches cutting my mouth. then i just pulled them out.

good luck.
