We are about to leave to go drive out to Farmingville to meet our possible priest/officiant. Yes, that's correct, at 99 days to the wedding, we have not booked an officiant!!! This has gone round and round for many reasons, but let's just say that hopefully in a few hours, we will have booked an officiant!! I'm just nervous because we're not really religious now but FH and I were both raised Catholic, and have received sacraments up to confirmation. I grew up going to church every Sunday, however in our lives today we do not go to church or practice at all. My mom really wants a priest to marry us, so basically I'm doing this for her, and I'm just scared to have to go through pre-cana (which on the phone he said we may) and be judged, so on and so on. Oh btw we are getting married at the Royalton, not a church, so every Catholic priest so far will not marry us there. This priest came highly recommended by a friend who was just a bm in a wedding he officiated. She said he was awesome, and he was very cool on the phone. I'll be back to update later, I appreciate you guys reading. I know a lot of people are really religious on here, so I don't mean to offend anyone by this at all. Thanks guys.

Re: SO NERVOUS-Please read
Hey, babe! Don't worry- it will all go great. I was also raised Roman Catholic, but left the church (nothing against the church!!), and will be getting married at our RH by an officiant. I'm getting married in about 4 weeks (gag), and I just got her about 3 weeks ago. Yes, I'm great at planning.
Just be honest, and it all should work out. I have heard about people going to Pre-Cana who have dreaded it, and when they came out, they couldn't believe how much they learned, and how much they enjoyed it. You seem like such a positive person- I can see you having this experience. Don't get yourself all worked up before you go and psyche yourself into having a bad experience. It could be great! And if it's not, then it just wasn't in the cards, and I have a great officiant to introduce you to.
You'll get a kick out of her. She loved me because she said I was in touch with my Sacred She.
I am serious.
I hope it goes great, and you love the priest, and your mom is thrilled! Let us know!!!

I am in the same situation as you are. We are both Catholic and getting married at our hall instead of the church. We have a long time family friend who is a priest, and he even said he wasn't allowed to marry us outside of the church - unless my FH wasn't catholic, then he could so we are on the same mission as you are. Good luck! If he works out - would you mind giving me some info? We have calls into a couple of other priests through friends and relatives right now.

Re: SO NERVOUS-Please read
Allegra, I was probably the most frightened person prior to meeting with the Priest and doing the whole pre cana thing. I come from a VERY religious family (My Uncle was a Priest!) My Mom also said that if I didn't marry in the church that her and my Father wouldn't pay for the wedding. So with that said, I booked me a Priest! I met with him and he was awesome!!!!! And Pre Cana was a great experience and we learned a lot. Trust me- it won't be bad! Good luck hun!

I was nervous about finding a preist and a rabbi for our ceremony, but we found one that was just right for us. If you need another priest to speak to, who will perform a wedding outside of a church, you should contact Father Thomas McCormick, he is wonderful. And he does not require pre-cana. Not that there is anything wrong with pre-cana, but I have heard stories both ways. Good luck to you.

Re: SO NERVOUS-Please read
I can solve you precana drama!
we should book our pre cana together! then you will have some friends there with you!
GL with the officiant. I'm sure things will fall right into place, just as they should. It wil be ok sweetie!
edit - i TOTALLY understand you being nervous about finding a preist. We are lucky bc FH father is a deacon and he can marry people.. so he will be marrying us. If you are stuck in a bind last min.. let me know.. i'll ask if he can do it for you.
