SO NERVOUS-Please read. UPDATE NOW!!

We are about to leave to go drive out to Farmingville to meet our possible priest/officiant. Yes, that's correct, at 99 days to the wedding, we have not booked an officiant!!! This has gone round and round for many reasons, but let's just say that hopefully in a few hours, we will have booked an officiant!! I'm just nervous because we're not really religious now but FH and I were both raised Catholic, and have received sacraments up to confirmation. I grew up going to church every Sunday, however in our lives today we do not go to church or practice at all. My mom really wants a priest to marry us, so basically I'm doing this for her, and I'm just scared to have to go through pre-cana (which on the phone he said we may) and be judged, so on and so on. Oh btw we are getting married at the Royalton, not a church, so every Catholic priest so far will not marry us there. This priest came highly recommended by a friend who was just a bm in a wedding he officiated. She said he was awesome, and he was very cool on the phone. I'll be back to update later, I appreciate you guys reading. I know a lot of people are really religious on here, so I don't mean to offend anyone by this at all. Thanks guys.

Hey if that doesnt work, I will recommend you my priest.. hes a retired RCC preist who does offsite weddings now

my sister and I are getting married at Resurrection in Farmingville. I'm not overly religious, but the priest there Father Malcolm is awesome!!!!

Thank you ladies so much!!! It actually went really well! We met with Father Joe for almost 2 hours He is really cool, laid back, funny, and really into YOU! He is a pretty interesting guy. Oh, and we don't have to do pre-cana! After asking us a lot of questions, and doing exercises he told us it wasn't necessary for us! Score! We went over our entire ceremony from beginning to end. Basically we're going to be doing a mainly 'Spiritual' ceremony, while incorporating some religious aspects. We're opening with the Sign of the Cross, then into a opening greeting. Then we do our vows...We are going to give writing our own vows a shot...Then a poem reading, then sand ceremony, parents thank you, musical selection (my friend is playing a song on classical guitar!), Lord's Prayer, ring exchange, remembrance of those passed, and then pronouncement of marriage!!!!!!!!!! OH!!! And he told us about a 'wine ceremony'!!! I want to do this!!! He basically says a little blessing on a small glass of white wine and then says something about wine being celebratory and that this is the first cup we share as husband and wife, then the groom takes a sip, then he asks the bride to cup the groom's hands and take a sip as well. I love this!! I mean, probably because I love wine I'm very excited to have this taken care of, and it's someone we really like! Thanks for all your support ladies!!!!

I am glad you had a good experience but I would double check that the marriage, although legal, will still be acknowledged by the catholic church (if you want it to be).

Priests are not allowed to marry you outside the church and it still be recognized. I am completely surprised that you found a catholic priest to do this.

It is not a sacramental marriage, or acknowledged by the Catholic Church. We are both aware of this, and fine with it.
