Greek Easter: going to church for Holy week (this week because this year Greek Easter is the same week as the Catholic Easter), keeping all the traditions of Easter, egg coloring, fasting for 40 days and Easter Sunday big feast at my house.. Easter is one of my favorite holiday. I love it

Re: So Passover/Easter/Greek Easter
WELL i am not greek but i celebrate the same easter as them, its actually christian orthodox since more than one country are that religion. Our easter is usually a few weeks apart from the catholic but this year which happens once every few years it ends up being on the same day.
But on Friday Fh and I are going to church, his mother is in the choir, they are catholic, then after we are going out to dinner. On Sunday we are having Easter dinner at my house, my mom just cooks alot of food and makes lamb of course...Thats why FH wants to even come to my house bc he hates lamb but only like how my mom makes it.

This year, we'll be lucky if we even make it to Church. There's a TON going on this weekend that is so NOT Easter related.

Yeah if CO easter didnt fall on the same week as Catholic Easter this year, we would be celebrating it next week. I kinda like celebrating it a week after

Re: So Passover/Easter/Greek Easter
This year were going to church with Fh's family and mine. And then dinner at my house. When we were younger we did the whole easter basket thing and coloring eggs. I told my mom I want an easter basket this year too... She looked at me as if I was insane.

Alfonse and I are going to St Pat's (the church we're getting married in) for Easter mass. Then we'll prob go to dinner at his parent's house or my grandma's - it'll be a game time decision for us.
As far as keeping it alive with our fam - I will do exactly what our BOTW posted + church.

Re: So Passover/Easter/Greek Easter
we're both catholic...so lent, giving up something, no meat on fridays stays. we fast on good friday...go to confession etc...do the 'commercial' easter stuff...colored eggs/jelly beans/candy etc...and my grandma gets real food blessed and we do this traditional polish easter sunday breakfast (its supposed to be after mass cuz again we fast)...but we usually just have it before. its my absolute favorite thing ever during easter.
then we go to fh's mom's house for a traditional ham/lamb easter dinner.
at some point when fh and i have a house/kids...we'll be the ones to host the events!

well for me it makes it so easy when its not at the same time since FH and i are different religions lol, this was one holiday that is the easiest for us with splitting our time...but we actually came up with a good solution and will work out.

yeah the orthodox one is very strict...fast doesnt mean starve btw i think thats what youre thinking it is lol...You just have to give up certain things at certain times...The worst though is black friday which is next friday, and you cant even drink water until sundown, i dont dothis lol

oh ok, cause i am not religious at all, but FH's family fasts on yom kippur, and they do not eat for 24 hours. so to me, fasting means not eating anything, not even a sip of water, so i would think someone would be dead if they did that for 40 days.

Re: So Passover/Easter/Greek Easter
I give up something, fast, commerical easter traditions, confession although didnt do it this Lent
well both FH and I are catholic (he converted 2 yrs ago) so I will be doing Easter breakfast with my Nana and Uncle and Grandma....then Church after breakfast then we usually let my little brother who is 8 find the eggs around the yard and in the house...
last yr we tried to color eggs with him and it turned out to be a mess...we will see this year haha
but if FH does come home since his parents are Greek Orthodox and Easter falls on the same week as Catholic Easter we will go to his house for early dinner (he likes to eat the Lamb) and then my house for a late dinner and dessert.... he likes spending holidays at my house cause we get into it more
but if FH isnt home (he might not be able to come home now ) then i will just stop by for a little bit at his house to see the FIL's and FBIL and FSIL....

no thats not what fasting means lol they would be dead...Yes for yom kippur they dont eat for 24 hrs and there is one day in the 40 days of fasting that you dont even have a drop of water but that is one day, that is just one day of the fasting process. WIth any religion fasting is done over a course of time, but honestly most do just part of it and dont do the full thing.

Yeah I do it every year. Its no meat and dairy from when lent starts to Easter. This year it was actually around 50 days lent. This week is very intense bec I cant eat anything because I will take communion this Thurs or Sat. Its good bec lent is very clensing.
