So this unemployment thing is getting boring

How do I get somebody to hire me in my field so I don't have to be a housewife anymore?

I can't do this anymore

Okay, so I am not alone.

So how do we get people to hire US????

We are such smart, nice people. What is wrong with us? (sorry for lumping you with me, Wendy)

I know, Jo, you're a good egg.

Maybe if I am still unemployed when you leave in August, I'll take your job Although I hope I have a job by then.

Sadly, I am looking and sending and interviewing, but no one wants me. I am ready to throw in the towel.

Is there anyone that specializes in your field that could give you tips or a mock interview or something? Just a suggestion, I know they have career coaches, and people who do professional resumes - maybe there's someone like that?

That job with the literary agent didn't work out?

I have a lot of friends in my industry who are trying to help me get a job, but everyone says the publishing industry is getting dry and competitive due to downsizing (the reason why I was let go)

The industry is shrinking and I think they either want senior level people with LOTS of experience or college grads with no experience. I am in the middle and no one wants me this way.

Academic is a little differnt, but we are in the same boat. We have 4 part time people, 3 full time working mostly from home & 7 full time in-office staff for the ENTIRE US company We are tiny, but still publish about 350 new titles a year. Everything is outsourced. It is reidiculous how we are supposed to do so much more with so much less.

The mid-level job thing is difficult too. I am looking for other marketign jobs ( not nec, inpublishing) & I am not experinced enough for anything, yet I have been here 7 years.

Now try not having a college degree or a 'field' and not having the 'qualifications' for anything other than receptionist!!

Why couldn't I have bought the million dollar Kangaroo Kash at the King's Park 7-11 like some chick just did, huh???????

What did you do in your previous job?

Juliet, I'm so sorry to hear that you're still looking, but I agree that the Publishing field is very selective when it come to hiring people 'in the middle'. It's really hard now too, considering all the recent college grads who are being heired as entry levels - hard to believe that 5+ years of industry experience isn't even a foot in the door now... Publishing is such a crappy field! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and sending good job karma your way!!

The fact that I really can't explain what I did probably does not help ...

YES!! , but for the sake of money and probably not being able to find a full-time teaching job after I student teach in January (middle of school year)..I am asking them for a leave of absence. I really don't want to come back, but I need the $$.

well, then just make something up!

Everyonce in a while I have to think , if my brother found a job, then there is hope for me ( and you guys)
he has a BA in history, but he worked in a drug store after college & then quit to fond a job & didn't for about 3 years! He did't really have references & his only office experinece was a work study job in college.

It's not a great job, but he works in the clerical department of a law firm. I'm still shocked anybody hired him. He's smarty, conciencsous & reliable, but not a great people person & had no experience & 3 years of being a bum.
